Rosalee Kidd-Mighty found healing after sexual abuse

Rosalee Kidd-Mighty is living her purpose today, having shaken all the baggage from her past after going through sexual abuse. She is a living testimony that, through God’s grace, you can overcome.

At the tender age of four, she experienced her first abuse when a stranger lured her into the bushes. Although she remembers the incident, she cannot recall what he actually did.

Some of the abuses she suffered came from a family member who molested her, as well as a neighbour. A few days before her 18th birthday, Kidd-Mighty was raped by someone she considered to be her friend.

“At one point in my life, I thought I was created to be abused, but God assured me that He hurt when I hurt and that there was purpose in my pain. It took a long time for me to believe, and before I reached that belief, I was very fearful and anxious, had nightmares, and dreamt about being abused. I didn’t know who to tell because most of the abusers told me not to tell or else,” she shared about her experience.

After suffering so much during her growing-up years, it was hard for her to move past the abuses. Opening up to Freedom Come Rain, Kidd-Mighty said she started the process of ‘breaking free’ by sharing her secrets.

She recalls having intense mood swings, happily laughing one moment, and then, in the next instant, experiencing negative emotions such as sadness and anger.

In 2000, Kidd-Mighty got married; however, carrying the baggage from her past, her marriage, though having its ‘enjoyable moments,’ was weighed down by the abuse she suffered growing up.

It got so bad that in the early stages of marriage, her husband considered separation. He entertained thoughts of moving on with someone else. Plunged in despair, she attempted suicide, and it was at that moment that she had an encounter with the Holy Spirit.

“He pushed me away from what I was going to use to harm myself, and I fell before the Lord and poured out my soul to Him,” she confessed.

She also shared her struggles with her husband and sought counselling and deliverance. At the prompting of the Holy Spirit, she started sharing what she went through with others. She prayed, fasted, and forgave herself and others who hurt her as she meditated on God’s words, getting more involved in church activities.

It was not a smooth road for Kidd-Mighty, as after being married for years, they discovered that the expected natural progression of having children wasn’t happening, and again, she had to deal with that pain.

“We decided to foster, and our five-year-old daughter came home in July 2020. I now experience the joys, beauty, and struggles of parenting,” she points out.

Looking back over her life, Kidd-Mighty says God has used her pain to propel her into His purpose for her.

Now an advocate for hurting women, especially married ones who are desirous of having children and whose wombs are closed, and for women who have been sexually abused.

“He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people,” she said, adding that first of all, they have to ‘want to break free’ and, having determined that, should find a trusted person with whom they can talk about their experience.

She encourages them to write their story asking God for help and then burn it. This, coupled with reading and meditating on the Word of God, will help in the healing process.

“If you don’t have a church home, seek one, talk with a counsellor, choose to forgive; try to listen to, read, and engage in positive topics,” she continued.

She tried to take revenge on those who hurt her and it didn’t turn out well; instead, it left her hurting and embarrassed. She cautions victims to learn from her experience and avoid that route themselves.

“No matter how it may feel sweet, leave vengeance to God. Forgive as soon as possible; the longer you take to forgive, the harder it gets. Don’t be afraid to seek counselling; it is an important step in the healing process. If you had a deep cut, wouldn’t you seek help? So seek help for your emotional, psychological, and mental health,” she stressed.

Born in St. Mary, she went to live in Kingston at age four with one of her aunts until adulthood.

Having gone through and overcome, Kiddy-Mighty said God laid it on her heart to share her story in a book so others could find hope.

The title, which she said, was a divine revelation, ‘Breaking the Mold: Finding Healing After Sexual Abuse’ is now out. Sharing what led up to the book, she said in 2023, in obedience, she met with Pastor Joan Fletcher, one of the founding pastors at her church, to find out how she could utilise her talent of writing songs to serve at church.

“As a new member at TLC [Transform Life Church], Pastor asked if I had ever thought of ministering to youths. I wasn’t sure how to answer as I had ministered to young children for years and not the older ones. I decided to share my life story of sexual abuse, a closed womb, etc. Pastor Joan then asked if anyone had ever prayed for the opening of my womb, and I said no, and my discerning pastor prayed for me. This is how God does things: when you selflessly offer yourself in service, He blesses you in other areas of your need. So, in January 2024, God birthed “Breaking the Mold: Finding Healing After Sexual Abuse” through me. Let me emphasise that God said, ‘This is His book and His words.’”

Holding a BSc. in Business Administration with a major in Management and a minor in Human Resources from Northern Caribbean University (Kingston), the Holy Childhood past student brings a wealth of knowledge to her endeavours. She has thrown herself into activities, including the communications and children’s ministries at the Transform Life Church where she worships.

She is also actively involved in various committees within her community and admits to being passionate about volunteerism.

“My passion extends to the well-being of children, thus my involvement in fostering through the For the Child Foster Care Programme, an initiative of CPFSA and Family Life Ministries, and hurting women. I was led to establish ‘Expectant Crew,’ a support group catering to married women aspiring to have children, as well as encouraging women experiencing sexual abuse or other trauma,” she shared.
