It’s God’s Business!

Ezekiel Knight, founder of Adonai Security Services generally employs Christian principles in his business, evangelises to his employees and tries his best to avoid any trap of idolatry as an entrepreneur.

Speaking with Freedom Come Newspaper, he admitted that he prefers  employing fellow Christians or persons who have a fear of the Judeo-Christian God. He often uses a job opportunity to evangelize,  encouraging his employees to turn to Christ.

“Even in the persons who we are employing, we try to get persons who are preferably Christians, but if not, they at least have a fear of God. I typically try to also not work with persons who smoke and drink and things like that. I try to avoid those kinds of persons as best as possible. And we encourage our employees to be on the Lord’s side. To seek to become a child of God.”

The desire to reflect the nature of  God in his career does not end at employment but in implementation. Among the virtues that he encourages is honesty and trustworthiness.

“In terms of what we stand for? Integrity, honesty,  because as I always tell even employees, sometimes millions of dollars worth of value is put into your hands, so you have to be honest to take care of people’s things, because they’re trusting you to take care of it until they return.”

Knight offers this advice from a position of experience as prior to Adonai Security Services, he provided services for a larger security company for around 15 years. He has been a christian for 10 years, and became the owner of Adonai Security Services in 2021. He also expressed that the choice of name for the company was fueled by a desire to reflect Christ. Adonai is one of the most prominent names used for God in the Old Testament, and when translated to Hebrew, means Lord or Master.

As a Christian business owner, Knight is urging other Christian businesses to partner with their counterparts in the faith. He proposes intra-faith trade as a means of boosting Christ-centered businesses.

“So we should support each other and encourage each other to do different types of business and we can do like a trade across. I am providing security, you have a store; I purchase, let’s say, uniform from you [and] you use my security,” he explained.

He highlighted the importance of avoiding idolatry, which is often a part of the lives of non-christian business owners. Trading among Christians, he said, would alleviate support for such entities.

“ As Christians, we should be dealing with each other; so you have a company (and) I have a company, you selling X and I’m selling Y. Then we should support each other as Christians instead of supporting the secular world. And we know sometimes what happens; we are supporting companies who are supporting other gods.”

Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Aubyn Hill, revealed in late 2025, that there are an estimated 425,000 businesses which are classified as MSME in Jamaica. They are responsible for 60 per cent to 70 per cent of jobs and contribute 44 per cent to the gross domestic product (GDP).
