BOJ to investigate defective banknotes allegations

The Bank of Jamaica (BOJ) said it intends to investigate allegations of defective bank notes following a viral social media post.

The bank’s response follows the posting of a TikTok video on Monday showing a woman with  a thousand-dollar note with missing features on the holographic foil. The poster said she became aware of the defect when she tried to  use the cash which she said she got from an ATM machine.

The BOJ stated on Tuesday that it will be investigating reports of possible defective bank notes and urged the public to report any problems with the new banknotes to its central bank located in downtown Kingston.

“We have reached out to conduct an investigation into the matter,” the central bank noted.

“If anyone else has this experience, they can come down to the bank to have the banknote tested and replaced if it is deemed genuine,” the BOJ added.
