After a shocker last weekend in the World Cup qualifier between Jamaica and Curacao, where Jamaica was defeated 2 – 0, Jamaica needed to win their next game to stay in the tournament. They did so at the National Stadium on Tuesday after defeating Bermuda 4-0 and are now at the top of the group again.
The game started at 7 p.m. at the National Stadium in front of a packed crowd. The Bermudians started out purposefully pressing forward in the first 25 minutes, but it was Jamaica which took the first goal after landing a corner kick. The Bermudian captain tried to defend it but instead guided it into the back of the net.
Jamaica began to take control of the game with the twelfth man (The Crowd) shouting vociferously at each shot taken at goal. The diminutive Bobby Reid then increased Jamaica’s goal to two. Within a minute, Shamar Nicholson sent Jamaica further when he latched on to a low pass and put it into the back of the net. It sent the Jamaican crowd wild, shouting and cheering. The Jamaican team then pitched a tent in Bermuda’s half of the field for the remainder of the first half, but the Bermudian keeper kept them at bay while some of the shots were blocked by defenders. The Bermudians welcomed the first-half whistle, as the heat was too hot for their liking.
The Reggae Boyz continued to display skills and talent over their opponent, as they showed no mercy on them. It was the substitute forward Dujuan Richards who made it 4-0 to seal the evening’s proceedings. This result now puts Jamaica once again on top of the group, with Trinidad drawing their match with Curacao. Jamaica also has a two (2) goal advantage lead in the tournament.
This was the first time Jamaica scored four (4) goals in a game at the national stadium since 2018 in a 4-0 win over the Cayman Islands in the Concacaf Nations League. Jamaica has not scored four (4) goals or more at home since 2019. Jamaica will now continue its preparation for two (2) return-leg matches in November between Trinidad and Tobago and Curacao in the 2025-2026 World Cup qualifier.
