Dr. Deb’s Flu Protocol
Matthew Binnicker, Director of Clinical Virology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, says that a surge in respiratory illnesses like Covid-19 and influenza during the cooler months of November to February is nothing new in the Northern Hemisphere.
Similarly, Dr. Jacquiline Bisasor-McKenzie, Jamaica’s Chief Medical Officer, has advised that “we are now in the influenza season, when an increase in influenza cases is expected… our figures are in keeping with what is expected at this time of year. Based on routine surveillance reports, at the end of 2024, weekly Severe Acute Respiratory Illnesses (SARI) and influenza-like Illnesses (ILI) visits were below alert and epidemic thresholds.” (moh.gov.jm/no-case-of-hmpv-or-avian-influenza)
However, with the recent emergence of the human metapneumovirus (HMPV) in China and an uptick in cases in the USA, people are taking their own cautionary measures. Naturopathic doctor Debra Williams has informed the Freedom Come Rain newspaper that there has been a significant increase in the numbers of persons contacting her about natural products they can take to build their immune system or treat their respiratory illnesses. Let’s look at her flu protocol:
- The Flu Shot, made popular during Covid-19, requires:
- ¼ cup honey
- ¼ teaspoon turmeric
- ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
- ¼ cup lemon or lime juice
- 1 small onion
- 3 cloves of garlic
- 1 inch of ginger
Blend all ingredients and store in a glass bottle, preferably with a plastic lid. Add 3 drops edible peppermint or eucalyptus oil and take 3 Tbsps. daily.
- If you have an incessant cough, a cup of tea using the herb mullein is highly recommended. (See preparation at #3 below)
- Along with the flu shot, vervain and lemon/fever grass are excellent herbs taken as tea for respiratory issues. The dosage is 1 teaspoon dry herbs per tea cup of boiled water. Cover and let steep for at least 5 minutes.
- Leaf of Life – take 5 leaves with a one-inch piece of ginger blended in a cup of coconut water; add 2-3 Tbsps. of lemon or lime juice. This will help boost your immune system.
- Oregano essential oil – mix 5 drops in a teaspoon of honey. Children under age one shouldn’t be given honey; they can get their dosage through their mother’s breast milk.
- Increase your intake of fruits rich in vitamin-C: guavas, pineapples, oranges, tangerines, grapefruit, cherries, berries, bell peppers.
Dr. Debra warns that while you’re going through this flu season, you should avoid all dairy, meat and fish, eggs, and highly processed foods. For optimum results, she advises persons to “remain on a whole-food, plant-based diet so you can better withstand the current times and what is up ahead.”
