Celebrating the children of Strathmore Home

Inspired by Hebrews 13:16, “And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased,” our first UCC/UCCF outreach project to the Strathmore Children’s Home was a journey from vision to reality.

As president of the University and Colleges Christian Fellowship (UCCF) at the University of the Commonwealth Caribbean, what began as a simple idea in my heart was far from simple to execute. There were many “no’s”, “not now’s”, and “we’re not able to help at this time”, but I held on to the Habakkuk 2:3 promise: “Though the vision tarries, it shall come to pass.” And so it did.

Upon arriving at Strathmore Children’s Home in Spanish Town, we were greeted with warm smiles and humility by the staff, children, and fellow volunteers. From heartfelt conversations with the manager to tender moments like combing hair and hearing children crunch their Day-O banana chips. We were constantly reminded of our mission: to know C

hrist and to make Him known.

MOTHER TO MANY

One of the most touching parts of the day was learning about Miss Marcia Tucker, the managing director. A proud mother of two, yet a mother to many, she has faithfully served Strathmore for the past 23 years. When asked how she keeps going, her answer was simple yet profound: she is designed for this, and not just with love, but with passion. Her commitment is matched by a dedicated team of staff that work hand-in-hand to create a nurturing, structured environment, one they welcomed us into with grace and joy.

This visit was more than a handover of items; it was an outpouring of love and ministry. Our devotion segment was led by Keara Hamilton, Tashina Clarke, and Tecia Ainsworth, followed by a story-time session that lit up the children’s faces. Keara later joined the volunteers in grooming the girls, while I spent time with the young boys, sharing wisdom based on my own experience and knowledge of the Word of God. Every moment with the children affirmed that

this was the right move for us to make as young adults, a divine appointment.

We were blessed to donate snacks, juices, tin foods, clothes and shoes, toiletries, washing supplies, and stationery—not just items, but expressions of care and community.

As Christians, we are called to leave a mark wherever we go, not just any mark, but a Christ-centred one. My team and I don’t just wear the phrase “To know Christ and to make Him known”—we live it.

Special thanks to our incredible sponsors who helped bring this vision to life: the B2B Mobile Provisioning Team (Flow), Confectionaries and Snacks, T. Geddes Grant, Monique Belafonte (student), Sis. Sachiel Thompson, and our UCC UCCF team.

We are so appreciative to all of you for believing in the mission.
