Champions Choose Christ!

Since the start of the year, a wave of transformation has swept through the world of sports, as several outstanding athletes have boldly declared their faith and surrendered their lives to Jesus Christ. In a culture often driven by fame, fortune, and fierce competition, these sports personalities are choosing a different path—one marked by humility, purpose, and unwavering devotion.

Freedom Come Rain features a few, including Jamaica’s own Junelle Bromfield, who, along with her fiancé, American sprinter Noah Lyles, was baptised minutes apart on Sunday, October 28. The couple made the announcement via their Instagram pages, sharing the videos from the baptism under the quoted text from Joshua 24:15. The baptism reportedly took place at Alive Church in Orlando, Florida.

In an environment where fame and performance often dominate headlines, Lyles and Bromfield chose to let faith command the narrative. It sends the message that their identities, beyond sprint times and relay splits, are anchored in something enduring. In their announcement, they invited followers not to a sermon, but to a moment of vulnerability, transformation, and public affirmation.

Jacksonville Jaguars rookie Travis Hunter got baptised just hours before stepping onto the field to face the Seattle Seahawk. The first-year wide receiver and cornerback made his stand publicly on Sunday, October 12.

Kansas City Chiefs receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown and his fiancée, Zoei Billions.

Hunter headed to Celebration Church in Jacksonville, Florida. There, he publicly declared his faith in Jesus Christ through baptism.  Hunter gained national attention at the University of Colorado for playing both offence and defence and has been steadily carving out his role in the NFL. Off the field, he’s showing that his faith is the foundation of who he is.

Hunter was not the only one who got baptised that weekend, as on Friday, October 10, Kansas City Chiefs receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown and his fiancée, Zoei Billions, were baptised at Journey Church.

Chiefs team chaplain Marcellus Casey baptised Brown, and Casey’s wife, Stephanie Casey, baptised Billion, according to Sports Spectrum.

Brown posted a video of his baptism on his TikTok account.

The NFL seems to be enjoying a revival, as another player, Washington Commanders safety Jeremy Reaves, was baptised in late August 2025, publicly declaring his faith in Jesus Christ.  Posts from sources like Sports Spectrum and Instagram shared the news, showing Reaves giving his life to Christ and being baptised.

There is even more to celebrate in Sports Faith, as an entire football team was baptised on August 20 in Mossy Creek.

Sharing the event via Facebook, Carson-Newman University posted, “Praise God for the 18 football athletes and one of our alums that were baptised today in Mossy Creek!

Every year during fall camp, our football team and members of the campus community make the trek down to the cool waters of the creek as dozens of student-athletes profess their faith in Christ, taking part in the believer’s baptism. We thank the Lord for His endless love and redemption through the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross!”

Earlier in May of this year, 26 women who were competing against each other in the Conference USA Softball Championship got baptised prior to the game’s start.

According to Sports Spectrum, it happened organically after an organised worship event on the campus of Western Kentucky University, which was hosting the CUSA tournament. The event, called “Worship on the Hill”, was hosted by the WKU Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter in partnership with Crossland Community Church in Bowling Green and included worship and teaching. By the end of the night, 29 college students were baptised.
