Chevelle Campbell – Turning Adversities Into Opportunities

Relaxing, drawing closer to God, and allowing Him to give you peace is easier said than done for many in today’s troubled times.
With countless distractions—rising costs, constant stress, and ever-evolving challenges—peace of mind can often feel out of reach.
Chevelle Campbell understands this deeply. She reflected on the time she was on a project nearing its end, and though she did a five-part interview in hopes of securing full-time work, she ultimately lost the position to someone with more experience.
It was, as she described, an incredibly stressful period. She needed something to help her cope—something that didn’t involve her phone, since that usually meant scrolling social media or doing more work-related tasks.
“I went to bed, and when I woke up, the phrase, ‘my gifts will make room for me’ was stuck in my head,” she shared in an interview with Freedom Come Rain.
Then, the project abruptly shut down on January 21, before its official conclusion. That’s when Chevelle finally realised what that revelation meant. It was her gifts—creativity, public speaking, and facilitation—that would become her source of income and purpose.
But that wasn’t all. Chevelle began having recurring dreams about her gifts, and every time she went out, she was reminded to trust in the abilities God had given her.
She recently completed an activity book, which became a powerful outlet to relieve stress and reconnect with God. Having grown up with a strong spiritual foundation, Chevelle takes her faith seriously. She shared that being in nature brings her peace—and she’s featured some of her favourite soothing spots in the book.
Speaking about the book, she said it includes puzzles and gave her a chance to express her creative side, and it is also a way for her to destress and calm her mind.
“The book allows me to colour and be creative. I relax, and in those moments, I don’t need to be productive. Our generation often links our self-worth to our work. When the work disappears, we’re left struggling with our mind identity,” she reflected, explaining how the book helped her navigate a rough season in life.
Chevelle noted that the book is suitable for all age groups, and through the process, she’s learnt that in silence, she hears God most clearly. Sharing that the book, which is untitled, will be available via her social media handle.
“I’m at a career crossroad, and trusting God is the only thing giving me peace,” said Chevelle, who has been making a major impact in her home parish of Clarendon. A graduate of the University of the West Indies, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology and later on her master’s in communication for social and behaviour change, she has consistently developed impactful programmes.
While serving as a Youth Empowerment Officer at the Clarendon Youth Information Centre, she led initiatives focused on gender-based violence, financial literacy, and support for troubled youth.
All of it, Chevelle says, stems from her passion to use her talents and life to serve the Lord and reflect His love however she can.
What’s next for Chevelle? She plans to launch a major initiative using fun activities to address mental health conditions in the Caribbean. It’s a concept she has carefully considered, and after seeing the impact on families, she’s dedicating her next activity book to this critical issue.
