In a move aimed at breaking decades of political impasse and voter apathy, the Jamaica First Movement (JFM) and the Jamaica Progressive Party (JPP) have forged an alliance to contest the upcoming general election.
Under the agreement, the JPP will operate within the JFM’s “Special Purpose Vehicle,” with the sole mission of contributing to the principle of national unity for a single five-year term.
The collaboration is a direct response to what the leaders call a national cry for a new path forward, one that moves beyond the divisive politics of the past and focuses exclusively on rebuilding the nation.
“For too long, our people have been asked to choose between two sides of the same coin, while the country continues to lose,” said Rev. Dr. Al Miller, Chairman of the JFM, in a press release announcing the alliance.
“This is not about creating another party for retaining power. This is about patriots from all walks of life putting their differences aside for five years to do one job: repair the foundation of this nation and set new paradigms for our children. We are answering the call of the Jamaican people for change,” said the senior clergyman.
The President of the JPP, Gilbert Edwards, echoed this sentiment, framing the alliance as a necessary act of national service. “The JPP and the JFM are now one team, united to reset Jamaica’s political atmosphere and put country first. Together, we choose unity over division, purpose over power… and the people above all else.”
The alliance is expected to leverage the strengths of both organisations: JFM with its visionary outlook to build the New Jamaica, and JPP, which shares the vision and provides the political machinery as a registered party to satisfy electoral requirements. This alliance enables the team to field candidates in all constituencies across the island.
The mission, the organisations say, is now to win the election, heal the nation, and build a new Jamaica.
