Commentary: Pride Goeth Before A Fall

By Perry Cummings Jr

CRIME, VIOLENCE, AND PRIDE INCREASING

The crime rate is climbing, corruption is still rife in high and low, good and bad places; while the agenda for the New World Order is clearly setting up itself to be fully established around the globe. Despite the tragedies and realities though, I am excited about the deliverance that this country, Jamaica, will experience in 2023.

The harsh reality is that many of us as Jamaicans have been lifted up in pride. We have so prided ourselves in our brawn, brain, and bank account, and in the ‘black, green and gold’ of our flag; that we have forgotten that it is the LORD who has blessed us, and also faithfully spared our island from many natural disasters.

We have lifted up the Jamaican flag above the blood-stained banner of Jesus Christ, and we will face the repercussions of pride. Recall that “Though the LORD be high…the proud he knoweth afar off” (Psalm 138:6 KJV), and “…They will not go unpunished”. (Proverbs 16:5b NIV).

HONOUR 2 CHRONCLES 7:14

The Bible is not a book of lies, but rather a composition of truth and nothing less. It is an advocate for change and is filled with examples of many situations and persons that God turned around for the better. The Word of the Lord declares that “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14 KJV). What this means is that the change we want can only come about in our lives, families, nation and world when we humble ourselves, pray, seek God, and turn from our wicked thoughts and actions.

While the media and our minds sometimes make our problems appear so formidable that we begin to doubt whether God is able to make a change; we should walk by faith, and not by what we see.

Be confident: all of God’s promises are true.

Even though many may have placed their “trust in chariots and horses,” be assured that there is still a remnant who “remember the Name of the LORD their God” and is honouring His instruction in 2 Chronicles 7:14.

It is this remnant that fills me with hope for Jamaica, that makes me feel excited.

CRIME AND VIOLENCE ARE INFLUENCED BY SIN

We must remember that crime and violence are influenced by sin, not by mere deviance acted out by “bad men.”

The Bible declares that “Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.” (Proverbs 14:34 KJV). Sin is a spiritual matter, and no head of security, no political strategy, nor psychological approach will be able to rid this country of a spiritual problem.

The responsibility for change in this nation rests upon Believers: the ones who have proclaimed Christ to be God, the ones who have surrendered their lives to the cause of Christ; we are the true defences of the borders and the crown of this state.

We need to fight the battle the way it should be fought – based on 2 Chronicles 7:14. If we fail to do it this way, the correct way; we will shoot shots, but will only harm ourselves because of the ricochet.

In all that we do and accomplish, let us remember to stay in Christ.
