Today, reggae artiste Courtney Porteous, also known as Papa Biggy, is giving God thanks for the miracle that transformed his life. A foundation artiste known for his conscious songs, he is especially grateful for the unwavering support of his wife, Karen, who stood by him through a life-altering trial.
Karen, a devoted believer who had recently given her life to the Lord, faced a test of faith like never before when her husband battled severe foot complications. The issue stemmed from two major fractures, compounded by diabetes, leading to multiple recommendations for amputation. The prognosis was grim, and the uncertainty weighed heavily on them both.
As a young believer, Karen struggled with the fear of losing the active, energetic husband she had always known—one whose very livelihood depended on his ability to move freely on stage. However, despite moments of doubt and despair, she turned to prayer and the support of fellow believers. She continually encouraged her husband, reassuring him that God was
still in the miracle-working business.
“I was assuring him of that,” Karen shared with Freedom Come Rain, “but to be honest, sometimes I wondered myself if he would receive the miracle I was believing for, as his foot seemed to be getting worse.”
Seeing her husband limp on stage with a walking stick broke Karen’s heart. She remembered the vibrant performer who once commanded the stage, and her desire to see him whole again only strengthened her persistence in prayer. Courtney, though raised in a Christian home, had not yet fully committed his life to Christ. However, as he witnessed his wife’s unwavering faith, he found solace and hope, even in his most fearful moments.
“I must admit, it was hard,” Courtney reflected. “At one point, my foot looked really bad. It was black and swollen, and even the bone was visible. The doctor strongly recommended amputation, warning that delaying the procedure could put my life at risk. But something in me held on.”
Seeing the urgency, Karen expanded her prayer circle, enlisting more believers to intercede for her husband. Meanwhile, Courtney, despite his physical pain, began joining his wife in devotions, seeking God more earnestly than ever before. What seemed like a hopeless situation soon took an unexpected turn.
In 2020, after years of battling to save his foot, a young doctor decided to take a different approach. Defying the recommendations of more experienced physicians, he devised an extensive treatment plan—one that could only have been guided by God’s hand. What once appeared bleak became a testimony of triumph, a complete turnaround fuelled by faith and belief in God’s miraculous power.
“I feel thankful that God has given me a second chance, and I do not take it lightly,” Courtney declared. “We have always lived a faith-based life, but this experience has solidified our core belief that the God of Job still works wonders.”
As for Karen, she remains overjoyed and in awe of God’s power. Every time she thinks about her husband’s healing, it strengthens her faith even more. What began as a test of endurance has turned into a testimony of God’s mercy, proving once again that through Him, all things are possible.
