September is the month for raising awareness about prostate cancer worldwide. According to the Ministry of Health, prostate cancer is the most frequent cancer in Jamaica and causes the most cancer deaths. The Ministry advocates that a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, along with regular exercise, can help lower one’s risk.
Baldon Francis is a fitness instructor who advocates detoxing as one way of flushing waste from the body. “Left to accumulate over time, we know internal toxins can lead to various cancers,” he shared with the Freedom Come Rain newspaper. “And I am quite mindful about prostate cancer because not only am I at risk as a Jamaican male, but also as a Black man.”
He informed that, “Statistics show that more Black men are affected by prostate cancer than any other race. So, cognisant of this, every now and again, I do a little detoxing to clear the channel.”
Francis was one of a group of over 30 persons who recently embarked on a 10-day detox challenge with naturopathic doctor Debra Williams, after they heard her speaking on the topic “Healthy Eating in the End Times” at the Tarrant Baptist Church (TBC) Freedom Talks on July 27, 2025.
This is his story.

Wow! Wow! Wow! I am who I am through Christ our Redeemer, who gave me the unction to function whilst smiling; even through the latest storm that He and He alone helped me to survive!
Can you in your wildest dream imagine what would happen if you went for 10 days without food because you were on a detox programme? Well, I can tell you because I tried, and it has certainly helped me to be healthier and more creative in the kitchen.
First, what is detox? It is the physiological or medicinal removal of toxic substances from a living organism, including the human body, and is mainly carried out by the liver.
I run Fit For Praise, an exercise programme, and have always been very serious about being healthy. So, why did I decide to try this detox?
I was on my way to eating wholesome by reducing/eliminating added sugar, artificial additives, processed foods, etc., from my diet. I was discovering that as I age, my health is my wealth and thus, one of my greatest assets to secure; but I was struggling with a sweet tooth that was messing up my system, and I really wanted to extract it from my life. Hence, my interest in this stringent detox programme.
I also wanted to cleanse my body of toxins, reduce my stress levels, lose weight, reduce inflammation, etcetera, etcetera.
DAYS 1 -9
I found the preparation phase of the 10-day challenge to be the smoothest, because I had a destiny helper who assisted me through the process, encouraging me when I became so frustrated because I couldn’t find Glauber’s salt, a key item on my list.
The first day of the challenge was prayer and fasting for a full 24 hours without eating, to prepare us for the long haul ahead.
Have you ever prayed and fasted prior to detoxing? It was a culture shock for me!
We read our Bible and began preparing the various blends for day two, such as our:
• Morning detox tea to clean the liver, kidney, and blood – 5:30 a.m.
• Aloe vera and tuna with some other ingredients that seem better on their own rather than in the company of that “massive damage” duo.
• Green vegetable smoothie
• Vitamin A Shot – my taste buds rejoiced every day with this ambrosia, as it was the only sweet we were allowed. I never thought that beetroot and carrot juice, along with their cousins, could taste so tantalising!
• Afternoon and evening herbal teas
• And to top off each day, a colon cleanse concoction at about 7 p.m. (I refuse to call it tea!)
And there were also probiotics and warm lemon water on the “Peace be Still” boat ride, captained by Father God, His son Jesus, and the blessed Holy Spirit.
DAY 10
On the last day, we had an elixir with Glauber’s salt to complete our lymphatic system flush, which, when the bombardment abated, I was 19 pounds slimmer and my high blood pressure normalised!
Halleleujah!
In spite of the fact that even on my birthday (day 6), bitter medicine was the order of the day, and I was not able to celebrate my milestone by having some wine and a well-prepared meal, I still am grateful for the experience.
I must encourage every member of the remnant army and otherwise to take care of the physical body that has been provided for you by God.
Know this: to achieve a healthy lifestyle, you must prepare to change your mindset; focus on your diet, exercise, rest, sunshine, air, water, temperance, and trust in God.
Detoxification definitely helped me. Try it with whichever healthcare provider you wish, but bear in mind that a healthy lifestyle does not stop when you finish a 10-day challenge; rather, it continues for a lifetime.
May God bless you all as you run the race of life, coupled with Godly wisdom, knowledge, and understanding.
