On page 22 of FC Rain Vol. 6, Issue No. 36, I wrote an article about a “double-double” rainbow seen the day before Pesach commenced. The witnesses included a FCRain reader. She was tending some green banana trees in her yard when she spotted the splendid signs in the sky.
The story segued to the price of green bananas, as I had bumped into a lady at the supermarket who had paid $1900 and a little over $2k for two packages, containing approximately 26 fingers…in total!
The article ended on this note: “We both agreed she could get quite a few suckers for that price and plant her own since the love was so strong. But the Promise prevails…great is God’s faithfulness towards us: the price of green bananas is actually trending down.”
Readers, within two weeks of that declaration, I made a brief visit to a sister-in-Christ and impulsively decided to drop by another’s house to say hello. We were excited to see each other because the reunion had been a long time coming.
Like the typical Jamaican, she glanced around her yard to see what she could offer me. A bunch of green bananas was hanging on a tree. “Would you like it?” she asked. “ It’s small…and the fingers are short, but…” I moved swiftly to retrieve a very sharp knife I had on hand! We slashed that bunch, and I left the knife with her…since she had other trees fruiting…
The bananas were wonderful and cooked in no time in the skin! The morning I was going to prepare the last few, I ran outdoors to get some French thyme to add at the end. The pot water was going to double as flavoured tea.
UPCYCLE YOUR POT WATER
Folks, we are not wasting ANYTHING! Please remember that you can also freeze your food water for soup, porridge, or juice base.
My neighbour’s son saw me scurrying to get back indoors and exclaimed, “Wait! I’ve had something for you all week!” And he handed me a bag of green bananas, twice as long as the first set, and one-third as many.
Incredible God! Don’t you just love when He puts a smile on your face? When He blesses you with a double-double that you just never expected?
I planted two green banana trees since that double rainbow was seen around Pesach time. And it’s only now that I am writing it’s dawned on me that one is an apple banana (the fingers are small), and one is a regular size! And that’s exactly what I had gotten free of cost from my friend and my neighbour—not a cent was paid! Now that I’ve planted those two suckers, please help me pray that they will thrive and bear much fruit for generations to come.
Readers, this weekend, we celebrate Mother’s Day, and I want to take a moment to encourage a mother who is struggling to make ends meet. Mom, we serve a mighty God who loves to pour His love upon us; only believe that His promise still stands. Great and greater still is His faithfulness towards us!
And she said, As the Lord thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.
And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.
For thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the Lord sendeth rain upon the earth. 1 Kings 17:12-14
The hand of green bananas I received from my neighbour beside the last of the bunch from my friend. Yes, that is chaney root and wiss in the fore of the pic. I got them at the market. If you know how to prepare them, please email me at freedomcomerain@gmail.com. Do include also a testimony of how God has provided for you recently.
