Dr. Debra’s Flu Protocols

INGREDIENTS

  • ¼ cup honey
  • ¼ teaspoon turmeric
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ¼ cup lemon or lime juice
  • 1 small onion
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 1 inch of ginger

DIRECTIONS

  1. Blend all ingredients and store in a glass bottle, preferably with a plastic lid. Will last up to 6 months refrigerated.
  2. Add three drops of edible peppermint or eucalyptus oil, and take three tablespoons twice daily.

ADDITIONAL REMEDIES

  1. If you have an incessant cough, a cup of tea using the herb mullein is highly recommended. (See preparation at #2 below)
  2. Along with the flu shot, vervain and lemon/fever grass are excellent herbs taken as tea for respiratory issues. The dosage is 1 teaspoon dry herbs per tea cup of boiled water. Cover and let steep for at least 5 minutes.
  3. Leaf of Life: Take 5 leaves with a one-inch piece of ginger blended in a cup of coconut water; add 2-3 Tbsps. of lemon or lime juice. This will help boost your immune system.
  4. Oregano essential oil: Mix 5 drops in a teaspoon of honey. Children under age one shouldn’t be given honey; they can get their dosage through their mother’s breast milk.
  5. Increase your intake of fruits rich in vitamin C: These include guavas, pineapples, oranges, tangerines, grapefruit, cherries, berries, and bell peppers.

Dr. Debra warns that when you’re sick with the flu, you should avoid all dairy, meat, and fish, eggs, and highly processed foods. For optimum results, she advises persons to “remain on a whole-food, plant-based diet so you can better withstand the current times and what is up ahead.”
