“Let everything that has breath PRAISE the Lord.” (Psalm 150:6)
Are you breathing right now?
Well since you are reading this, obviously you are alive. Praise the Lord. He woke you up this morning. Someone lost their breath last night. Someone else is right now struggling to breathe and to stay alive.
This breath of life is a precious gift from God. It is a blessing we receive each day along with mercies, provisions, protection and so much more.
Seems like our world is having a hard time breathing these days. Creation is groaning.
The world is being held in a firm grip, being strangled by the evil forces of darkness. The life God has given to the world and humanity is being snuffed out slowly by the wickedness of man, fueled by the powers of darkness.
Currently, the entire world is in mayhem and we are all in some way being affected significantly by COVID -19, alongside other natural disasters occurring all over the world. This pandemic has crippled the affairs of mankind, yet we are still to Praise our Creator.
For the sceptics, atheists. and unbelievers of Jesus Christ, they might ask, “What is there to praise the Lord about? “If God is so good then why has He allowed this epidemic?”.
It is difficult for some persons to grasp the meaning of this; but for those who do, Praise is what we do even when we’re going through.
But hold on, pandemics have been here before, still God has not changed, and still, He’s worthy to be praised!
The Bible states in 1 Thessalonians 5:18, “In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you”. “IN EVERYTHING” means, even during this time of COVID. It means, in the good times as well as in the bad times. The songwriter states, “In the good times praise His name, in the bad times, do the same. In everything, give the King of Kings all the thanks”.
You see, God is not perturbed by disasters, catastrophes or even COVID. However, He is the Great Judge and C.E.O of the universe, who has all authority to allow and dis- allow the affairs of humanity. Paul wrote in 1 Thess.5:18, “In everything give thanks”. Does this mean I am to Praise the Lord during this pandemic?
Yes, we should praise the Lord at all times. Why?
- Because we are commanded in scripture to do so. (Psalm 150:6)
- Because we love Him and should honour His Word. (John 14:15)
- Because we were created to do so. (Isaiah 43:21)
- Because God inhabits your praises. (Psalm 22:3)
- Because God sent Jesus to die and save us from our sins. (Romans 5:6-10)
- Because God is worthy of our praises. (Psalm 145:1)
- Because praise is an effective weapon in warfare. (Psalm 149:6)
So while we are commanded that as long as we are breathing, we are to praise the Lord, let us be obedient and declare with the songwriter, “Thou art worthy, thou art worthy, thou art worthy Oh Lord; to receive glory. Glory and honour and praise”.
