Local charity body lauded for righteous stance
Food For The Poor, an international hunger relief organization has been commended for cutting ties with the Jamaica AIDS Support for Life after becoming aware of its aggressive contraception promotion.
The charity organisation, which serves the poor in Latin America and in countries in the Caribbean like Jamaica, was highlighted by the American Life League (ALL) as one of the charities worthy of support from pro-life donors. ALL noted that when it comes to life issues, FFP upholds pro-life values and does not support anti-life organizations or agendas.
“FFTP was originally working with a pro-contraceptive group in Jamaica called Jamaica Aids Support [For] Life but have cut off their relationship with them since 2022,” ALL stated.
The Jamaica AIDS Support for Life serves persons living with HIV/AIDS in Jamaica, including men who have sex with men and transgender women.
“While providing food, medicine, and shelter (among other services), Food for the Poor works to expand and build maternal health clinics in rural areas, and does not endorse abortion,” ALL stated.
Dr. Doreen Brady-West who chairs Doctors for Life, a pro-life group to be launched on January 28, has commended FFP.
“They have a worldview and they are standing with it and they are not willing to compromise it for money’s sake. People on the other side [pro-choice] get a lot of dollars from all kinds of international donors and so on, so I think it is admirable for pro-life groups to separate themselves from other groups, even at the risk of not getting all the money they would have gotten otherwise, and I think it is good that other groups recognise them as such and can encourage people of like mind to support them,” she told the Freedom Come Rain newspaper.
She said she has done work with Food for the Poor before, and feels it is important that the public knows the worldview of the organisations they are donating to, or are even receiving financial support from.
“If somebody is going to give money and they don’t want their money to go towards abortion and transgenderism and sexual deviants, they know they can give it to Food for the Poor,” she said.
Dr. Brady-West, said that in addition to providing assistance to women and engaging in advocacy, Doctors For Life also intends to do research, so that it will be in a position to inform the population about different issues pertaining to abortion.
ALL has been tracking charitable organizations and their corresponding positions on life issues for many years. Based on research, the group found that even charities that preach the gospel of Jesus Christ have been found to support abortion, contraception, and promote the LGBT lifestyle.
“As the abortion industry has grown into a multi-billion-dollar operation, more individuals and organizations have been corrupted and participate in abortion,” observed Ed Martin, who leads STOPP, the American Life League’s Planned Parenthood watchdog division. He continued, “The Charity Watchlist is important because it shines a light on organizations and exposes their connections to the killing. When you follow the blood money, you see the truth about these organizations.”
“You can take the Charity Watchlist one of two ways,” stated Katie Brown, American Life League’s director of communications. “It’s an eye opener to how many big-name nonprofits fund dirty programmes, but what I think is more important is that there are many nonprofits that do great things and keep out of the weeds of abortion research. This is something people deserve to know. Where we put our dollars counts, and nothing sends a message quite like withholding funds from pro-abortion organizations.”
