Entrepreneur Sadra Madonna Lindsay has found a winning formula with Garden Gold Cosmetics, a vision that was given to her back in 2017 when the LORD revealed to her that she would be leaving her current job in government in December of that same year.
In her mind, she reasoned that even if she was going to leave, it wouldn’t have been on that timeline as she was supposed to shortly assume acting duties for her manager; so financially, it wouldn’t have made any sense to now depart.
“Just a week or so into December, my manager called me and a young lady who sat in my seat, as I sat in his.”
He said, “I have some not-so-good news,” and he proceeded to elaborate that he would not be going on vacation again because the company had informed him that a mistake had been made. Due to some error that had occurred in 2008, he actually didn’t have any leave days!
Needless to say, Lindsay was shocked, but she had to admit that God worked in mysterious ways. So, she packed her bag knowing that her Father had something else in store for her.
WHILE WAITING SHE STARTED EXPERIMENTING
“Two businesses later,” she admitted, “I don’t take God for granted; I watch the ways He works. I listen and as best as I can, I follow instructions. Even when it was painfully tough, there was never a month that God didn’t come through.”
In 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, one of Lindsay’s businesses suffered a significant setback. She decided that while she waited for a turnaround, she would invest some time in caring for her hair. She purchased product after product in an effort to make her hair grow and began experimenting with things from her garden.
“I would use the raw Aloe and Leaf of Life in a combination of oils while plaiting my hair. In a short period of time ( a few weeks), my hair literally doubled in length. Everyone was asking what I had used. So, as an entrepreneur, it became second nature to try and see whether this was a new business idea that had come, while the other one was struggling,”
A GOLDEN DISCOVERY
On June 6, 2021 she and her husband, Sherwayne, got down to business, trying to determine a name for the venture. They started playing with the word ‘garden’ as the ingredients were naturally grown in their home, thus was the birth of the name, “Garden Gold Cosmetics.”
Lindsay, sharing on the early days of getting the products out, recalls an encounter. She saw an auxiliary worker at a bank in Manchester and noticed that her hairline was suffering. Lindsay proposed the use of her Aloe Blend Leaf of Life-infused Hair Growth oil, telling her she could have it for free, just to report the results to her after using it.
“She was overjoyed, and in about eight days she called, exclaiming: ‘I thought you were an angel! I’ve tried everything to improve my hairline, but nothing has worked! And in days my hair middle and sides are growing back!’”
“I was overwhelmed,” Lindsay confessed. She then took her ‘experiment’ to her younger brother, who had really thick, unmanageable hair. He asked for some of the Aloe Oil Blend and she told him it would work immediately, loosening his hair and making it instantly manageable.
He laughed, and within two minutes of applying the oils, he was whooping with uncontrollable laughter – he couldn’t believe that the results were literally immediate!
In hindsight, Lindsay said everything was in God’s design, as her husband, who pastors the Top Alston Assemblies of the First-Born Church International in Clarendon, under the leadership of General Overseer Bishop Ralston Coke, reminded her that seven years ago when they were engaged to be married, she had a vision of having very long hair down to her waist. In that interval, she also had a vision of a very lush green garden with everything flourishing.
Lindsay, who credits everything to the LORD, is thankful as they have been able to ship products to territories such as the UK, Canada, USA, British Virgin Islands, Grand Cayman, and all across Jamaica.
BALANCING LIFE BY THE GRACE OF GOD
Parents to two “wonderful” toddlers, Micah and Joshua, Lindsay is also a gospel recording artist and worship leader. Author of a book entitled, “To This Day Let Me Write,” she works assiduously at creating the right balance for her family.
“Balance can be a lot tricky – managing church, businesses, music ministry and a family with small children, but God has been faithful in that regard, and I am a habitual planner. I try as best as I can to pace myself and write down things so they don’t get lost in thought. I’ve been a Christian since my childhood and was baptised in my teens,” she beamed.
Her company has since ventured into the skincare side of things and has been manufacturing the Leaf of Life Serum and the Aloe Leaf of Life Luxurious Body Bars. Some of the other products are Aloe Blend Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner, Aloe Blend Leave-in Moisturizer, Aloe Leaf of Life Infused Rapid Hair Growth Oil, Rosemary Leaf of Life Infused Rapid Hair Growth Oil, and Garden Gold Satin Bonnets.
As Lindsay looks ahead to even more blessings, she acknowledges God’s faithfulness.
“Every time I see the results (literally every single day), I thank God. I say, “God, these things didn’t have to work. There are so many products out there and to God be the glory, I have something that works on the spot!”
She disclosed that her next goal is to be known worldwide and open as many retail outlets as possible.
