Goal Setting

It is good to have a focus or theme for the new year and my theme verse is: Isaiah 43:19 “Behold I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”

How might this verse instruct us in the new year?

1. We can still be successful in challenging times; we may be walking in a wilderness or desert season…we do not know what season we will be in 2024, but whatever situation we are in, God will bring us through.

2. Nothing is wrong with doing a reflection on what happened in 2023. but we ought not to be stuck in the past.  It’s like driving: we don’t constantly look in the rear-view mirror. “Forget the former things,” sayeth the Lord God Almighty.

3. We should be thankful. When we are thankful, the Lord intervenes in our troubles.

4. In order to achieve our goals, we should pray and think about them. In 2024, we should declare boldly that “With God all things are possible.”

5. Write the vision down! This message is still relevant to us today. We should write down the 2024 goals. It becomes more concrete in our minds when we write it down. We can get a vision board or use a simple note book.

6. We should have an accountability system. At least one person should know about our goals, and he or she should be able to say to us, how are you doing with that particular goal?

7. Go for it! After we have prayed and thought about our goals, what good is it to just sit there? We have to walk by faith and do the work that we have already been called to do, and watch God work!
