“You are proof that when two or more people pray, God is with us. You had the whole world praying and your recovery is strengthening faith everywhere.”
This was the message from Karen Swensen as she responded to Buffalo Bills’ safeguard Damar Hamlin’s tweet.
The player suffered a cardiac arrest last Monday during a game against Cincinnati Bengals and had to be resuscitated. An automatic external defibrillator was used to put his heart back in the correct rhythm on the field, before being rushed off to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center where he was placed on a ventilator.
The NFL, family and others held prayer vigils for him as they hoped and prayed for a miracle.
It started when he was first utilising 50 percent of the breathing machine, then being taken off it all together. On Friday, he was able to facetime with his teammates and on Saturday he made his first tweet since the incident.
“Putting love into the world comes back 3xs as much… thankful for everyone who has reached out and prayed. This will make me stronger on the road to recovery, keep praying for me!” he wrote.
The responses were filled with reassurances to continue the prayer chain, with some rejoicing at the remarkable progress he has been making.
