Dear Editor,
We are well into the New Year 2026, and I am so grateful for the mercies and the grace of God.
In the latter part of last year, Jamaica had an unusual experience: we were hit with the strength of a Category 5 Hurricane, which devastated the western part of Jamaica. This seems to me to be a wake up call. When God gives a wake up call, He is sending a message. He is saying: “Enough is enough”.
God, over and over again, has spared us from the direct hit of many hurricanes, hoping that we will see His mercy, not because we deserve His mercy, but for the people to change from the evil way that they are living, and repent and turn to God. We should not take it lightly when God decided to show a country a sign like this.
But, unfortunately, some Government people are using this opportunity to push even more their evil policy. This is appalling and concerning! As a people and a nation, Jamaicans, who are considered to be God-fearing, need to speak up and speak out and let the Government know that Jamaica is under God’s control and not the enemy! We must not allow the Government to make policies that are against God’s will. We must radically push back. Many countries are still looking for Jamaica to stand up against the wicked influence of their governments and international forces. Prayer and fasting are our biggest weapons against the forces of darkness.
Let us, in this New Year, continue to fight the good fight of faith. We have seen how God, in the past, has rescued Jamaica, and policies that were harmful and detrimental, were pushed back because of answers to prayers. “Greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.” (See 1st John 4:4) Let us hold fast and be confident and determined as we stand up and be good ambassadors for our LORD and God, the Creator of us all. Let us praise the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
I am,
Sonia Fay Buckland (Mrs.)
