JFF plans to celebrate Reggae Girlz in September

The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) is to hold off on celebratory activities with the the Reggae Girlz until September, as only four members of the history making team are expected to return to Jamaica for now.

In response to a question posed by the TBC 88 FM and Freedom Come Rain newspaper reporter Steve Clarke about homecoming celebrations planned for the Reggae Girlz, JFF president Michael Ricketts noted that the majority of the players are currently based overseas.

Ricketts further indicated that  he is not sure whether the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sports will be hosting anything. All the members of the team are expected to be together in September.

Ricketts provided this feedback during a press conference at the JFF’s headquarters in New Kingston on Thursday, at which time he welcomed new sponsors Sherwin Williams Limited and Lasco Distributors Limited, who have pledged their support for the development of the sport.

The Reggae Girlz created history when they reached the knockout phase of the 2023 Women’s World Cup.

“I would say without apology that, so far, this must go down in history as the most successful year ever in the history of football in this country,” Ricketts said.
