Jamaica’s two major political parties have selected their teams and will face off in a series of national debates that will focus on social issues, the economy and leadership starting this weekend.
The first debate focusing on social issues is set for August 23. The JLP will be represented by Pearnel Charles Jr., Kamina Johnson Smith, and Matthew Samuda, while Damion Crawford, Raymond Pryce and Sophia Fraser-Binns will represent the PNP.
The Jamaica Debates Commission (JDC) chairman Brian Schmidt noted that the debate on the economy will be undertaken by a team on each side on August 26. In previous years, only the the spokepersons on finance for either parties had engaged in the debate on the economy. The JLP will be represented by Fayval Williams, Dr Christopher Tufton and Dr Dana Morris Dixon, while the PNP will be represented by Julian Robinson, Peter Bunting and Kisha Anderson.
Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness and Opposition Leader Mark Golding will go head to head in the leadership debate on August 28.
