Letter to the Editor: Beware of artificial sermons

Dear Editor,

It seems to me that apostasy is so advanced in the Christian church across the world that many pastors and leaders have comfortably turned to artificial intelligence portal CHATGPT to write their sermons.

CHATGPT has been growing in popularity, churning realms of academic work, analyses, speeches, and even sermons daily.

In some cases, sermons are not only written by the app, they are being delivered by robots that have no human soul or emotion.

These sermons are being delivered in a dull monotone that puts congregations to sleep and rid the Word of any semblance of life.

The gospel of Jesus Christ is about love, compassion, peace, boldness, and the abiding presence of the Holy Spirit; robots are manmade machines that cannot convey any of this.

A sermon produced artificially is an academic discourse generated from algorithms. It is not delivered from a heart of flesh and a sound mind. It is not the sharing of the gospel from the holy, living sanctuary of God.

It is not strange for some pastors to regurgitate and reproduce sermons they harvest from online platforms even while they are in a backslidden stage or where they were never saved in the first instance.

These leaders are completely blind, foolish, without understanding, and the things of the spirit are foolishness to them. They embrace worldly ways and take this attitude to the church. Many of them see worship as meaningless ritual and the church as a lucrative business.

While it is true that the Word of God is bound to deliver His exact intent, even if it comes through a dead donkey’s head, there is a level of deception that is proffered to the congregation who receive the artificially created sermon delivered by unbelievers under the pretext that it is the Living Word delivered by God’s appointed servant.

A pastor who is lazy and reliant on AI (artificial intelligence) for his messages will not only be led astray but will eventually lead the congregation astray.

These pastors will accept and promote unrighteousness based on their limited understanding and the reprobate ideologies that are fed to them through technology and the worldwide web.

It may be hard to believe, but online platforms are undiscriminating. They are invented and powered by flawed human beings, who seek to appease all and accommodate all lifestyles and ideologies.

The majority of those who push chatbots and computer apps do not believe in the God of our Salvation, nor are they obligated to the tenets of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

The fact is that the enemy is still the prince of the air, and any material coming through the technology unchecked can easily be subject to demonic interventions.

Chatbots can write a passably competent sermon, but they can’t replicate the passion of actual preaching or the presence of the Holy Spirit.

ChatGPT might be really great at sounding intelligent, but it cannot be empathetic.

Pastors need to be careful in this age of technology.

I am,

A very concerned reader
