Letter to the Editor: Making compost for your garden

Dear Editor,

Composting is a simple and natural way to create rich soil for your garden. Start by choosing a shady spot for your compost pile or bin. Add a mix of “greens,” like vegetable scraps and fruit peels, and “browns,” like dry leaves and shredded paper. Greens provide moisture and nitrogen, while browns add carbon.

Keep your compost damp by watering it lightly, so it feels like a wrung-out sponge. Turn or mix the pile once a week to let air in and help everything break down faster. In about two to three months, you will have dark, crumbly compost ready to nourish your garden plant.

I am,

Leomar Lewin LL
