Lisa Knowles-smith & the Brown Singers Hit #1 With ‘Promises’

Dallas, TX — Lisa Knowles-Smith and The Brown Singers have etched their names into gospel music history as their anthem “Promises” climbs to the top of the charts. Recorded live from their album Live in Dallas, the song’s refrain—“The promises of God are yes, the promises of God are amen”—has struck a chord nationwide, echoing from pulpits and concert halls to homes, social media feeds, and gospel radio stations.

“To see this song reach #1 affirms that music rooted in faith, tradition, and purpose can still resonate nationwide. We stayed true to the message—God handled the reach. My mama would be so proud.”

Other members echoed her sentiments, describing the moment as “unreal,” “overwhelming joy,” and “a blessing to spread the message of Jesus Christ on this level.”

For more than five decades, The Brown Singers have blended hymns, spirituals, soul, and blues into their distinctive sound. Following the passing of original member Vanessa Yvette Brown Knowles, the group continued to honor her legacy. Today, Lisa, Jackienna, Sierra, and Rachel lead the ensemble, with Lisa’s daughter N’dia stepping into her grandmother’s role.

While the accolades are historic, the heart of the moment remains the message: God’s promises are unwavering—yes and amen.
