Living Beyond The Grave

Time and change are the two most powerful forces on earth that cannot be stopped. We cannot manipulate them or bend them to our will. In fact, these forces are permanent in our lives. The Creator has reassured us time and time again that life has dedicated seasons for change. “To everything there is a season and a time for every purpose under the heavens.” For some, this statement may be a great revelation, but for others, not so much. If you were asked about the clothes you wore when you were five years old, where are they now, you may not have an answer, or the toys with which you once played, where are they today?

THE UNCHERISHED GIFT

We see changes in landscapes and the rise of technology. Once, we communicated via postal mail, but now messages are sent with the click of a button. Change happens over time without us recognising the movement in our lives; seldom do we really take note.

The provoking question I always have is: if everything around us is always changing and evolving, why do we find it so hard to change our lives for the better?

The gifts we possess always fascinate me because most people never get the chance to appreciate or explore them before passing away. So many people are alive but have no idea what they are capable of doing or becoming.

Life is an incredible gift given to man—a force that is impossible to replicate. Time and change are the judges of our lives, and they also determine how successful we are in achieving the purpose for which we have been placed here.

HAVE YOU USED YOUR TIME WISELY?

Like a businessman, God never goes to invest in a venture that yields no reward.

In Matthew 25, there is told the parable of  a  master who gave three of his servants talents before he went on a long journey. One received five, the other two, and the third one. The servant who received five invested what he got and gained five more; the other who received two gained two more; but the one who received one did nothing with it except bury it.

The master returned from his long journey and asked for an account of his investment. He gave the first two of his servants the same rewards for the profits they had made, which made him very happy. However, the servant who had buried his talent made him very unhappy, and he was punished for laziness.

How sad would it be if we reached the end of our physical lives without being able to account for the time and energy spent going about our daily lives!

People fear death, but I tell you, it is more gruesome to have life and energy without a sense of direction or purpose for why you are here. We fail to recognise that we are indebted to each other and are meant to serve one another. The blessings and gifts we have are never for our own fulfilment but to meet the need of something else in creation.

YOU ARE NOT YOUR OWN

It is selfish to carry the gifts we are given to the grave, making the cemetery even more wealthy as the days go by. God loves us so much that He gave His only son for us as a ransom, but Jesus didn’t die for us to just be in grace. He died to save what is buried within us, for we are His workmanship; created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

We all strive for freedom, but freedom is never cheap. We yearn for purpose, but too often, we fail to seek it. We have not because we ask not.

You have a rare opportunity before you; you owe your life to those who sacrificed their time and energy to allow you to be where you are. Your life is not cheap; in fact, it is invaluable.

Create the indelible mark you were born to create, like those before you. Before you leave, let the earth know that you are here.
