Marsha Burrel Rose: Walking into purpose

Many must have thought Marsha Burrell Rose hit her head when she walked away from a thriving restaurant business replaced by uncertainty.

Burrell-Rose did not look at the obstacles; instead, she had one thing on her mind: obeying the call that God had placed on her life.

While serving customers, she shared in an Instagram post that God was stirring something deep inside of her.
“My husband and I had started a small charity, feeding the homeless every last Sunday of the month. What began as an act of kindness became a calling. I realised that serving the poor fed my soul in a way that business never could,” she wrote.

The call came stronger, according to Burrell-Rose – the quiet, unmistakable instruction from God. “It’s time to walk away.” She said it didn’t make sense; it wasn’t logical, but she knew it was God. That’s when she closed the doors of the restaurant.

“For one month, I sat at Rituals Coffee Shop with Donna Smith, the owner, simply waiting… praying… listening. No income. No plan. Just obedience,” she reminisced.

During the season of uncertainty, Burrell Rose and her husband continued their outreach ministry, feeding and ministering to the poor. They did not just provide physical food, but they also brought the Word, encouragement and hope.

Their ministry yielded fruits, as three people got baptised. Following this celebration, there was more good news for the Roses, as Burrell Rose was offered an opportunity to join Food For the Poor Jamaica.

As far as she was concerned, it was not a coincidence, as the kind of assistance the organisation offered was something she had a passion for.

As she termed it, it was “Purpose. Alignment. Divine timing.”
Twelve years after, Burrell Rose is still with the charity organisation and is enjoying her role as the Development and Marketing Manager at Food For The Poor Jamaica.

“Look at God. He took what I released and replaced it with purpose, impact, and a life I could never have built on my own. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” — Proverbs 3:5–6, she quoted.

For Burrell Rose, walking away was not losing; it was positioning. It was God shifting her into the very assignment He had prepared for her long before she even saw it coming.
Her words to others who might have the call of God on their lives are simple: “If God is calling you to release something familiar, listen. There is life, purpose, and destiny on the other side of obedience.”
The homeless are still fed – but in a different way … God she shared is now saying higher level.
