French Goalscorer Seals Deal with Spanish football giants
The Mbappe, PSG, and Real Madrid saga is finally over, as Real Madrid has officially announced the signing of Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer after his departure from French giants Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
The 25-year-old, who is PSG’s record goalscorer with 256 goals in 308 appearances, has signed a five-year contract at the Bernabéu worth €15m (£12.8m) a year after tax, where he will receive a signing-on bonus of just over £85m. This figure will be paid, however, in different installments over the duration of his contract.
The 2018 World Cup winner joins Carlo Ancelotti’s side just days after they secured their 15th Champions League title to clinch the cup double this season, having also been crowned LaLiga champions.
The Spanish giants have been long-term admirers of the talented French forward dating as far back as his time with Moncoa, but despite much interest from the likes of Real Madrid and many other top clubs, Mbappe decided to stay in France just a little longer and would eventually sign on loan with PSG in 2017 with a mandatory purchase option of €180 million.
Since then, he has endured 7 years at the Parc des Princes, where he has honed his talent and is widely characterised as one of the best footballers of this generation with his tricky dribbling, sheer speed, and eye for goal.
However, with all the qualities he possesses and the success he has endured at the pinnacle of football glory, one trophy still evades his cabinet, and that is the Champions League. Mbappé and PSG were unable to realise their ultimate goal during their time together but came the closest in 2020 when they were defeated 1-0 by Bayern Munich in the finals.
Following his move to Los Blancos, Mbappé will be hoping that this decision will finally lead to some Champions League success, with Real Madrid being known as serial winners of the competition. The forward now joins a Madrid team that already boasts the likes of Vinícius Júnior, Jude Bellingham, and Rodrygo in attack, leaving Ancellotti with a task on his hands as to how his team will line up for next season.
