Today, Milton and Gulliene Carr are thankful for social media, especially Facebook, as the two made the connection on that platform and soon became friends.
Milton said that they started dating after she invited him to a crusade at her church and he went.
He thoroughly enjoyed both the service and the time spent with her. Still, he didn’t have any “serious” thoughts about their relationship, preferring to focus on communication and celebrating the things they had in common.
“We were friends for about two years and then lost touch. I was walking in Half-Way-Tree one day when I saw her, and we decided to reconnect; we were so happy to see each other again,” Milton recalled.
In discussing their next step with Freedom Come Rain, he stated that once they resumed communication and realised how much they had in common, they both decided to pursue a committed relationship.
“At the time, we were both single, and we decided to go on a date; we began dating on my birthday; it was the best birthday present ever!” he exclaimed.
On August 7, 2021, the two married, each expressing their love for the other.
For Milton, it is the fact that she is “humble and transparent,” and for her, it is his love and support.
Celebrating almost two years of happy marriage, the couple has always learned to deal with any disagreements that may arise.
“Yes, there have been many occasions when we disagreed,” Milton explained. “But she’s the type of person who doesn’t like arguments, so before she argues, she just gives me the win, but knowing how she is, I always try to apologise. We don’t let the sun go down while we’re upset; instead, we work together to find the best solution,” he says.
Milton, in reference to the adage “a woman is always right,” says that in their relationship, their decisions are based on what is best in the specific situation.
Milton emphasising the strength of their relationship said it is all about communication.
“The glue that keeps our union together is strong communication, not letting the sun go down on our wrath, and teamwork,” he expressed.
Every shared moment with her is precious as Milton navigates a long-distance relationship.
“She is now in the United States of America, while I am in Jamaica. We have a beautiful son and who visits once a year. I am very excited and look forward to my family living together in love and harmony,” he says.
Milton makes the long distance work by ensuring he maintains daily video calls and talking to each other, even when they are both at work.
“Despite the fact that we are so far apart, we have very strong communication. We’ll be living as one family under the same roof very soon, and the rest will be history,” he said cheerfully.
And on that festive note, he recalls a funny memory surrounding her birthday when he decided to take her to a restaurant called “A-Bar Restaurant and Lounge” for a surprise dinner.
“When the cake arrived, it had the sparkle flare thing in it, and she was trying to blow out the sparks but they wouldn’t go out, and we were laughing. It was hilarious because she was blowing so hard and not realising that sparks don’t go out like that.”
Milton’s advise to other married couples is to ensure that they allow love to lead the way, to put God first, and to stop listening to negative people who don’t have a solid relationship going on for themselves.
“Don’t try to be like that couple you see on social media. Be grateful for what you have and leave your own legacy,” are his sage words.
Milton’s dream for the future is to travel the world with his family and explore different cultures and ways of life.
“We also intend to adopt a child in the future to give them a taste of what it’s like to be loved, filling the gap that child was missing out on in terms of what it’s like to have a family that loves and cares for such a one,” he says.
