Jamaica Post is warning customers to be vigilant in the wake of reports of numerous phishing scams that have been reported.
Jamaica Post is a department under the Office of the Prime Minister and manages the island’s network of nearly 237 Post Offices and 165 Postal Agencies. According to its website, these post offices offer mail and commercial services including bill payment, local and overseas expedited mail service, parcel post service and the sale of postage and commemorative stamps. Meanwhile, the Postal Agencies primarily collect and deliver mail and sell postage stamps.
In recent times, Jamaica Post has been upgrading post offices in partnership with the National Identification System (NIDS) to make them into NIDS enrollment Centres. There have been several concerns about the NIDS which will be a digital ID for Jamaicans. One of the concerns have been potential data breach, especially as countries globally come under increasing cyber attacks.
Speaking with JIS News, Jamaica Post Public Relations Officer, Tanickea Bennett, said persons must remain alert to avoid becoming victims of the persistent cybercrime that has been reported by customers.
“Some customers have reported receiving suspicious messages requesting that they click on links, provide their sensitive data, and make payments online. These did not originate from Jamaica Post,” Bennett said.
“We are encouraging customers to refrain from clicking on suspicious links and sharing their sensitive personal data,” she continued.
