Residents of some St Andrew Communities will be experiencing nightly water-lock-off going forward due to declining inflows from the Hope Filter Plant surface water sources.
The National Water Commission (NWC) said the temporary nightly shut-down of the facility will begin from 9pm to 5am daily in order to improve levels at the storage tanks.
“Customers are to note that they are likely to experience low pressures during the supply period. Where necessary, trucking arrangements will be implemented for customers that are not supplied during the stated service time,” NWC advised.
The water company had warned in March that given the soaring costs of energy, it would not be able to operate certain plants and systems on a 24-hour basis. It promised that customers would be given adequate notice at the appropriate time regarding the selected facilities for downtime operation.
“The NWC regrets any inconvenience that may be caused and craves the understanding of its valued customers during this time,” the NWC said in relation to the temporary nightly water lock-offs.
Communities to be affected include:
August Town, Hope Road, Mona Heights, Liguanea, Mona Road, Ravinia, Hope Flats, Papine, Gordon Town, sections of Beverly Hills, Hope Pastures, Arthur Wint Drive, Up Park Camp, sections of Barbican Road
Meanwhile, the NWC has indicated that operations at the Kitson Town Pumping Station in St. Catherine will be suspended from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm today to facilitate pipeline and meter replacement works along the network. Customers are being urged to store water for use during the period of disruption.
Areas to be affected are: Belleuve Heights, Taylor Road, Neseberry Grove, Mercury Garden, Spanish Ridge, Friendship Housing Scheme, St Johns Heights, St. Johns Meadows, Kitson Town, Vaz Delight, Top Mountain, Paul Mountain, Cherry Garden and Cottage District.
