October is breast cancer awareness month

Let’s talk prevention

By Debra Williams

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and it has been kick-started with women being encouraged to get screened.  We acknowledge that this is important.

We are also cognizant that many illnesses, including most cancers, are lifestyle diseases that can be avoided. Therefore, we want to ask a bold question:

Do you really have to remain on the path that ends in disaster for so many people?

Research has taught me that cancer is a condition of mutating cells that the body is unable to deal with because of a compromised immune system! Consequently, these cells will start mutating and proliferating in any body system or organ that has weaknesses, and they can migrate to any other system and attach themselves there. Any symptom, from a skin rash or

constant indigestion or constipation, to unexplained weight loss, or swelling in any part of the body can turn out to be major symptoms of cancer.

Why not take heed of the heart-wrenching statistics and commit to being a better keeper of the temple in which God resides?

Like Mama always says, “Prevention is better than cure,” so let’s address this by focusing more attention on the quality of the eight natural elements of health:  Nutrition, Exercise, Water, Sunshine, Temperance, Air, Rest, and Trust in God – make a NEW START.

THE SOURCE OF YOUR POWER

The key to these eight natural elements of health is a well-balanced, common-sense outlook on life. We need to have a complete health programme, and although we can make choices to follow a healthy lifestyle, we still have weaknesses that often end up causing us to fall so many times, landing us right back where we have to start all over again.

Everyone wants power to overcome their weaknesses.

You’ll find books in many bookstores on “dressing for power” and “eating for power,” etcetera, but did you know that God wants to give you power? Ephesians 1:19–20 says, “How tremendous is the power available to us who believe in God. That power is the same divine power which was demonstrated in Christ when he raised him from the dead.” (Phillips)

Given our natural propensity to be afflicted with weaknesses, what if we had something or someone to lean on to give us strength through our problems and give us the power to overcome the falls? Certainly, we do have friends that we can talk to for encouragement, but we need to remember that all of us are in this together, and each one of us is struggling with our own weak areas.

However, there is ONE with power that we can lean on, ONE who is interested in every individual’s personal health: the compassionate Creator of the Universe. He is the ONE who says, “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” 3 John 2

Now, some may reason that this is old stuff and turn away, but we need to stop and think a while. Doctors and modern science are finding that good health is more than just physical and mental; it also includes the dimension of spiritual health as well. The truth is, strong spiritual health helps to safeguard us against all the storms of life.

I encourage you today to build your spiritual health by trusting in God; there is no mightier source than Him.

Before I leave, let me share a cancer prevention recipe with you.

VITAMIN A SHOT RECIPE

Come with me into the kitchen to prepare a quick anti-cancer drink with long lasting effect. Carrots are rich in Vitamin A and contain ample amounts of cancer-fighting nutrients.

Cancer does not like Vitamin A because it helps to strengthen our immune system.  Along with beetroot and turmeric, regular intake of this Vitamin A shot will help to cleanse the body and increase energy.

Here’s to a new start – adopt a healthy lifestyle and the benefits will be more long-lasting.

INGREDIENTS:

  • Purple Cabbage 20% – ¼ peg
  • Carrot 60% – approximately 4 carrots
  • Beetroot 20% – 1 small
  • Turmeric – 2 inches (if you can’t find the root, add ½ teaspoon turmeric powder)
  • Ginger – 1 inch (if you can’t find the root, add ¼ teaspoon ginger powder)

DIRECTIONS:

  • Run all through a juice extractor to make your juice.  Drink immediately.
