October launch for Christian NGO helping Jamaican women

With a mission to provide tangible support to women, at-risk youths, and other vulnerable groups,  Sisters United for Prayer, Healing, Empowerment, and Restoration (SUPHER), a New York-based nonprofit organization, is set to officially launch its Jamaican chapter next month.

The organisation was founded by Jamaican born New York based Pastor and Life Coach, Rev. Marie Berbick in 2013 and has been a lifeline for women dealing with trauma, abusive relationships, and emotional hardship since its inception. Over the years, the organization has evolved into a more comprehensive support system, offering mentorship, counseling, coaching, and now skills training.

SUPHER recently launched the Nikolai Graham/SUPHER US$1,000 Scholarship, which aims to provide financial assistance to students from single-income households.

The inaugural scholarship recipient is 12-year-old Daniella McKinley, a Grade 6 student at Glowell Preparatory School who recently transitioned to Holy Childhood High School following her stellar performance in the Primary Exit Profile (PEP) exams.

The scholarship will help Daniella cover her school fees and other back-to-school expenses. Having lost her father to gun violence at the age of two, Daniella has been raised by her grandmother, who has been her primary guardian since her mother struggled to care for her following the tragedy.

The NGO is also set to launch a Free Social Media Management Training Programme for women in Jamaica facilitated by popular social media influencer and talk show host Sheena Lyn Hanson, also known as “Sheena Power Talk.” This four-week online course begins this September and will equip women with essential social media management skills that can help them start their own social media management business. Participants will receive a certificate upon completion.

Rev.Berbick emphasized SUPHER’s growing mission to provide practical, life-changing resources for women and vulnerable groups.

“Since 2013, SUPHER has been a compass and support system for women who need help. We started by focusing on helping women get out of abusive relationships and offering counseling and mentorship. Now, with our establishment as a nonprofit in the United States, our vision has expanded to include coaching, skills training, and support for women, at-risk youths and other vulnerable groups.”

SUPHER is set to launch its Jamaican chapter on Saturday, October 5 at Eagles Deliverance and Empowerment Ministries International on Red Hills Road.
