PNP’s Hugh Graham resigns from shadow cabinet

Member of Parliament for North West St Catherine, Hugh Graham today resigned from the Opposition Shadow Cabinet, and as councillor for the Lluidas Vale Division.

Graham said his resignation as the People’s National Party (PNP) spokesperson on Commerce, Science and Technology is with immediate effect.

The businessman informed PNP president, Mark Golding  of his decision in a letter dated April 3. The letter was copied to the party’s general secretary, Dayton Campbell and Mayor of the St. Catherine Municipal Council, Norman Scott.

“As I had promised my mother, if it should ever happen that I don’t think my purpose is to serve the people who have elected me, I would step away with the hope that they would be better served,” he said.

“I want to thank the people of Lluidas Vale Division who have allowed me to serve them from 2002 and as their Councillor since 2007. As to my people in Lluidas Vale Division, I am prepared to serve you in whatever way, capacity or opportunity that may arise, as I believe I should serve the people only to make their lives better,” he added.

Graham will remain a member of the House of Representatives.
