Pro-life advocates use prayer and fasting to stop killing of babies

A doctor who once made a lot of money from killing babies in the womb said the focus on wealth remains a key factor driving the abortion movement, but he has witnessed how prayer has saved the lives of thousands of babies worldwide.

“The abortion industry is fueled by money, and we know that the love of money is the root of all evil,” said Dr. Haywood Robinson, who used to perform abortions with his first wife, Noreen, who died in 2021.

After turning to God, both became pro-life advocates, and Dr. Robinson is now the director of medical affairs and education at 40 Days for Life. The organisation hosts prayer vigils outside abortion centres in several countries. Since being launched in the US in 2007, almost 700 such vigils have been launched globally.

Dr. Robinson and Robert Colquhoun, who is the 40 Days for Life director for International Campaign, were in Jamaica last week to join the first ever such prayer vigil in the Caribbean. The prayer vigil was started by the Love March Movement on February 14 and is to go on until March 24 along Ivy Green Crescent. Although the vigil was started in Kingston, it is hoped that it will eventually become a national campaign and move beyond Jamaica to other countries in the region.

“What we would love to see is for the mission and ministry to flourish in Jamaica,” said Colquhoun. He commended the local campaign leader, Dr. Daniel Thomas, who he has found to be very passionate and committed to the cause.

“Wherever you live, whether it is Jamaica, whether it is the US, whether it is the UK, there is still great work to be done,” he said.

Colquhoun is from the UK, where people have been arrested for just praying outside an abortion clinic. The 40 Days for Life campaign was started in the UK in 2010.

“We have very liberal abortion laws, so we’ve got our work cut out,” he explained.

The 40 Days for Life campaign was first started in Houston, Texas, after the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) established a facility in a very conservative community. Residents decided to start a prayer vigil, which saw them pray for 24 hours for 40 days, and this saw a reduction in the abortion rates at the facility. The facility was eventually shut down and is now a medical centre that offers women hope.

Dr. Robinson, who is from Texas and is the most tenured member of the 40 Days for Life campaign team, has witnessed the staging of one prayer vigil for close to 700 people internationally. He stressed that abortion is a global problem that can be tackled when Christians join forces to address the issue.

“This killing of the innocent. This whole abortion holocaust is the worse shedding of blood in the history of humanity,” he said before adding. “Wherever the enemy is doing his work, we have to be there also.”

Robinson’s current wife, Daphne, who was also a part of the mission trip to Jamaica, said it is important for men to make their voices heard on the issue.

“We need their support and their leadership; it is not solely a woman’s issue. The baby was created by two parents: an egg and a sperm. The father and mother were both donors,” she told the Freedom Come Rain.

The team met with several church leaders last Saturday during a pastors and leaders breakfast at the Courtyard by the Marriott Kingston Hotel.

“The church has got to stand up against this global holocaust. The church is us. We are the Lord’s hands. We are the Lord’s voices,” Dr. Robinson said.
