Christians take to the streets in prayer protests

Doreen Hall has fond memories of attending Sunday school as a little girl, and she believes that her early exposure to the Word of God has contributed to her being a decent law-abiding citizen.

The 72-year-old wishes children today were as privileged as her in having a mother who insisted that she went to church. She feels the lack of interest in the things of God is a significant contributor to the high levels of immorality being experienced in the country now.

“When I was a child growing up, Jamaica was a Christian country, where righteousness was right up to the top. Our country was able to seek and do all the things pleasing to God,” she shared, before adding,  “We want to go back to that place, where we do things that is pleasing unto the Lord [and] live according to His Word.”

Simon Paul

It was this burning desire that caused her to join with several other Christians at the Emancipation Park in Kingston last week Friday to participate in a peaceful prayer protest. Those in attendance hoisted placards expressing their desire for the country to adopt a righteous agenda and steer clear of more secular and satanic pursuits, such as the adoption of the LGBTQI lifestyle and corruption.

“I come out here to stand up for my nation; stand up for the righteousness that will exalt Jamaica. That is what we want: righteousness to exalt Jamaica. That Jamaica will be an example to the rest of the world,” Hall told the Freedom Come Rain.

“When we stand for Jesus, Jesus will stand for us. And we want them to know that God is able to do all things. All that is going on in Jamaica, we are not pleased about it,” she said.

Pastor Dr. Patience Alonge lamented that unrighteousness has taken over many sectors in Jamaica. The university professor had two placards that she showed to passing motorists as she walked along the park’s pavement, praying and making prophetic declarations.

“We are here this morning as the church, standing against unrighteousness in our nation, standing against unrighteous leadership, standing against unrighteousness in the family, unrighteousness in our government, unrighteousness in our schools. We are standing against unrighteousness in our economy. We are standing against unrighteousness in the media. We are standing against unrighteousness in every aspect of our nation; the print, electronic, and digital media. We are saying no to all the works of darkness. We are saying yes to righteousness. Because the Bible says righteousness exalts a nation,” she declared.

Dr. Alonge said transgenderism, abortion, the move towards cashlessness, efforts to implement a digital national identification, and corruption must all be rejected by Jamaicans.

“That is what we are standing for. And we are praying to God to come and intervene in our nation. We are praying to God to give us righteous leaders, born-again leaders that will lead this nation in righteousness. It is time for righteousness under God, through God, by God, so that Jamaica will increase in beauty, fellowship, and prosperity and advance the welfare of the whole human race. We need a new Jamaica for our children. We don’t want our children to be destroyed,” said Dr. Alonge.

Father of one, Simon Paul, said children are obviously under attack in Jamaica. He feels the absence of men in the household is one of the primary reasons for this.

“Jamaica is in a state where women have been dominating for a very long time, and God has called us as men to stand up and to watch over the nations with the women at our side. And so we are here to take back our legal rights and position as men, just as a voice, and also to represent the family as one of the gates or the pillars of this nation. So I am here to bless the Lord and to give my support,” he said.

The protest will continue according to the leading of the Lord.
