Baby rescued in reversed abortion Miracle

Shocked! That’s how 17-year-old *Davina felt when she learnt she was pregnant.

The teenager is currently studying practical nursing at one of the Heart/Trust NTA training centres. She had her heart set on eventually travelling and working when she got the news that she dreaded sharing with her mother. As it turned out, at around the two-month mark, her mother realised  that her daughter “looked different” and raised the issue.

Both agreed that she needed to focus on school, and then came discussions about pursuing an abortion.

“Because I wasn’t, like, finished with school yet. Not knowing what the next move was going to be. Not fully there. It was just an option in the back of my mind, replaying over and over and over,” she said.

They decided to visit a local doctor who, though admonishing them that abortion was illegal, agreed to assist them to terminate the pregnancy, which was about 10 weeks old.

“In the moment, we just don’t want to do it. It was just pure shock. So, we did it, and then she [doctor] came in. I got an injection first, and then I got the pill,” she said.

Davina felt numb as the doctor explained what she should expect in the next few days. She cried as she was being advised on what to do next and was told to come back in two weeks. She recalled her mother taking her to the car and then weeping with her best friend later that day, but not much else. She could not shake the realisation that she had entered into a process to take the life of her unborn child.

While at home, Davina started bleeding, and her mental anguish intensified when she realised the process had started.

“In the moment, I’m just saying, ‘Please, please, I want it back.’ Like, literally, crying that I want it back. God, please, at least, stop it if you can stop it; slow it down; don’t let it happen. I called back my mother; she asked if I am alright, [but] I shut down. I couldn’t talk; I couldn’t say nothing, just cry and a shake,” she recounted to Freedom Come Rain.

Her mother couldn’t console her, and so she called a friend, who is a doctor, who advised her that it might be too late to do anything. Davina’s best friend and sister tried without success to calm her, and that night, sleep was the last thing on anyone’s mind. Her mother, tormented at this point, decided to search the internet to see if there was any way to reverse what was already set in motion. She came across an abortion pill reversal site and decided to call the hotline listed. She spoke to the person on the other end of the line in the United States. They guided her through the process of halting the abortion.

Davina and her mom also reached out to Friends For Life, a local group that assists women with crisis pregnancies and opposes abortion. The group has helped to save more than 22 babies since being launched last year. They connected Davina with a doctor in their network who did the necessary check-ups. The teenager was relieved when she heard her baby’s heartbeat.

As someone who is very active in church, Davina knows abortion is wrong and is happy she was able to stop the process when she did. Now, she is at peace. She noted that while having an abortion might seem like the best solution, it really does affect people mentally. She encourages women to carry their baby full-term, despite life’s challenges.

“Even if you have one person, just one person supporting you, go for it; do it. And if there’s no one supporting you, maybe that’s the reason why God let you get a baby – to push you to do better…to push you to say, Okay, you have this person. It’s your motivation; go for it. You can still do it no matter what,” she encouraged.

Her mother told Freedom Come Rain that she looks forward to having her grandchild, but she wouldn’t mind it being a girl, since boys “give too much trouble.”

She now has peace of mind.

“I am not currently active in church, but normally, I am a church person, so after all of what we had done to get rid of it [the baby], there was something plaguing me, like, I couldn’t sleep. I couldn’t focus any at all.”

She said she does not support abortion generally and is surprised that she went along with that decision. She, too, encourages women to keep their babies.

“Times might be difficult, things might be tough, [and] sometimes you end up alone with them because there is no daddy, but who are we to take a life?” she asked.
