A sword is an offensive weapon and is intended to inflict injury. The sword of the Spirit is a weapon as well as a tool in the hand of the skillful user. Every Christian has the responsibility to gain knowledge and insight into the Word of God. Only then can we learn how to harness our knowledge and engage in strategic warfare. We must embody the Word until it far outweighs or swallows up everything coming against our lives.
Cut…Clear…Cut Off
Revelation 1:16 paints an interesting picture of Jesus. It says that he had a two-edged sword coming out of his mouth. In essence, the power of the Sword of the Spirit is in our mouths. The sword is intended to cut both ways. It is intended to clear out unnecessary baggage from our lives and is agile enough to cut off the head of every Goliath in our lives.
Swing Your Sword
You may just be coming out of a divorce, have buried your spouse or are getting older and still single; and you are confused and uncertain about your future. Nevertheless, I want to challenge you to pull out your sword and begin to cut away fear, hopelessness and depression. Swing your sword even if you are weak and feel like all the fight has gone out of you. Remember that the battle in not yours, it belongs to the Lord and all he needs is for you to agree with him. If you and God can come into agreement about the promises in the word he will bring it to pass.
Rooted…Grounded…Solid
Sometimes God allows us to go through situations just to get enough word planted into our spirits. He wants to make us rooted and grounded so we become solid. Jesus called Peter a rock because he perceived something in him that would stand the test of time. The next time you stand up to declare the Word of God into your life and situation do so with the certainty that the word is eternal and must accomplish whatever God desires.
