So glad I kept my baby!

Customer service representative *Tamelia Adam was perturbed on learning she was expecting a third child, to the extent that the thought of getting an abortion crossed her mind.

The Christian mother verbalized her desire to her husband who objected and then she confided in a friend who referred her to the anti-abortion group Friends for Life. This referral changed her life, as with the support of the organisation, she was encouraged to have her baby. Her daughter was born in June this year and has been a source of pure joy.

Tamelia, who is also the mother of a nine-year old daughter and a four year old son, said she was worried that her and her husband would not be able to finance a third child given the current economic climate.

She worried about her salary would not be able to meet the expenses of having an additional mouth to feed.

“That was my worries wondering where help would come from, but I was assured by Friends For Life that God is the provider of all things and I  held on to that with my dear life and my faith grew stronger and I am more comfortable. I don’t worry anymore. I worry less,” she shared with Freedom Come Rain.

Her faith has been rewarded as she confessed to seeing ‘surprises’ in the form of just having random conversation at work and being offered a pack of pampers – and she didn’t even make a request for one.

Sometimes she just has to ask herself, “God is this You?

Tamelia shared that she had protected herself against pregnancy, but soon came to realise that God also has charge over her fertility.

“How I look at it, if God didn’t want her (daughter) to be here, she would not have been here,” the 32-year-old mother stated of her newborn.

“Deciding to keep the baby can be a life-changing and emotional experience. It’s common to feel a mix of emotions, including joy and excitement for the new life growing inside…… It’s okay to also remember that you will feel overwhelmed at times, and that’s what the Friends for Life group is there for,” she revealed.

“Whenever I am overwhelmed, they are there. I am supported 100 %, so I have no problem with that,” Tamelia shared.

Although she is a Christian, Tamelia finds that the decision to have a baby can be very complex and sensitive. It is for this reason that she encourages those who are feeling overwhelmed to confide in a trusted friend. She is extremely grateful for the support of the Friends for Life team who volunteer their time and resources in their quest to save babies.

“Seek prenatal care, find resources, do your research before and don’t rush into any decision. You know, you have to have some time to process your emotions.  Consider the options carefully and ensure that whatever decision that you make, it is aligned with the Word of God,” she advised.
