SRHA Saddened by Death of Longstanding Senior Medical Officer-Dr. Peter Wellington

The board, directorate, and staff members of the Southern Regional

Health Authority (SRHA), and in particular the Mandeville Regional Hospital (MRH) in Manchester, are saddened by the death of the former longstanding Senior Medical Officer (SMO), Dr. Peter Wellington.

Dr. Wellington died on Sunday, May 26, after a period of illness.

The former SMO spent more than four decades in public health, primarily at the MRH, where he served from 1976 to 2015. He was a mentor for many young doctors, and his decades of advice, guidance, mentorship, and leadership were instrumental in the development and transformation of the Mandeville Regional Hospital.

Dr. Wellington, who was also a surgeon, made significant contributions to public health. His enthusiasm and passion, which he poured into his work, will be long remembered.

He also served at the Bustamante Hospital for Children, the Princess Margaret, Kingston Public, and the Lionel Town hospitals.

The SRHA expressed condolences and best wishes to the family of Dr. Wellington during this difficult time.
