The five students who assisted their injured schoolmate Jaheim Colman, 14, to get medical treatment last week, have received commendations from their school community and have met with Prime Minister Andrew Holness.
The group of BB Coke High School boys lifted Colman and walked with him through the busy town of Junction to a doctor’s office after he was beaten unconscious by a grade 11 student for stepping on his Clarks shoe.
The students Khari Green, Gary Bartley, Leon Barnes, Daejaun Gordon, and Dejaun Powell, were commended by school administrators, teachers and their peers during the school’s devotion on Monday.
Colman, a grade eight student, was allegedly punched and beaten by his older school mate shortly after the dismissal of classes on Thursday. The two boys were reportedly among students collecting their phones when the older boy accused the younger boy of stepping on his Clarks shoes.
The student responsible for carrying out the beating of Coleman, was taken to the police station by his mother following the incident. He has since been charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.
