“God never gives you an occupation without instruction, and He never releases instruction without the promise of increase.” — Dorrett Hewitt
Many work tirelessly yet see little increase, because their labour is disconnected from God’s blueprint. Scripture reminds us: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” — Colossians 3:23
God’s order of fruitfulness always flows in a divine pattern: Occupation → Instruction → Obedience → Increase. Understanding this rhythm can turn frustration into fulfillment, and stagnation into supernatural growth. When your occupation becomes your assignment, God multiplies what you do. “I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase.” — 1 Corinthians 3:6–7.
1. The Principle of Occupation
Occupation is not just your 9-to-5 job. It is your divine placement — where God has strategically assigned you, whether in family, ministry, business, or calling.
- Adam (Genesis 2:15) was placed in Eden to cultivate it, but the occupation came with instructions: “Do not eat from the tree of knowledge.”
- Moses (Exodus 3:10–12) was sent to Pharaoh to lead Israel out, and God gave him the blueprint.
- Paul (Acts 9:15–16) was chosen to reach the Gentiles, and his ministry was guided by divine revelations.
Truth: Occupation without instruction leads to frustration. Where God places you, He also prepares guidance.
2. The Principle of Instruction
God never initiates without guiding. Instruction is the bridge between occupation and increase. It is God’s strategy for your success.
- Joshua (Joshua 1:7–8) was told to meditate on God’s Word daily. His success depended on obedience to divine instruction.
- Elijah (1 Kings 17:2–6) survived famine because he followed God’s directive to hide by the brook.
- Peter (Luke 5:4–6) caught more fish than ever only after casting his net where Jesus instructed.
Truth: God is covenant-bound to guide what He has ordained. He cannot call you and abandon you.
3. The Principle of Obedience
Instruction alone is not enough — obedience is the key that unlocks increase. Many receive God’s Word but fail to act on it, and so they miss the blessing.
- Noah (Genesis 6:22) obeyed God by building the ark exactly as instructed, and his obedience saved his family.
- Abraham (Genesis 22:18) — because he obeyed and offered Isaac, God swore a covenant blessing over his descendants.
- Jesus’ Mother, Mary (John 2:5) — at Cana she told the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.” Their obedience turned water into wine.
Truth: Obedience is faith in action. Delayed or partial obedience is still disobedience. But when you obey fully, you position yourself for Heaven’s release.
4. The Principle of Increase
Increase is never accidental. It is a covenant response to obedience. Human effort plants and waters, but only God multiplies.
- Isaac (Genesis 26:12-13) obeyed God to stay in Gerar and reaped a hundredfold harvest in famine.
- The Widow (2 Kings 4:1–7) saw oil flow until there were no vessels left to fill.
- Jesus (Matthew 14:19–20) multiplied bread and fish until thousands were filled.
Truth: Effort alone is not enough. Obedience invites God’s breath of increase.
5. How To Function in, Through, and From Occupation to Increase
Here’s how you live out this truth daily:
- See Your Occupation as Assignment, Not Just Employment
Colossians 3:23–24 — Work as unto the Lord.
Dedicate your work each morning in prayer, shifting your mindset from “just a job” to “divine assignment.” - Function With Excellence & Integrity
Proverbs 22:29 — Skill brings you before kings.
Be diligent, punctual, and honest. Excellence attracts increase. - Serve People, Don’t Just Chase Pay checks
Matthew 20:26–27 — Greatness comes through service.
Add value wherever you go; solve problems and bless others. - Steward Your Increase Wisely
Proverbs 3:9–10 — Honor God with your first fruits.
Tithe, save, and sow seeds—don’t consume everything. - Remain Teachable and Trust God’s Timing
James 1:5 — Ask God for wisdom.
Stay humble, seek counsel, and let God lead you step by step.
Summary: When you align occupation with divine instruction and obedience, you walk into God’s increase—fruit that remains.
6. The Kingdom Flow
The process of divine fruitfulness is consistent:
Occupation → Instruction → Obedience → Increase
- Occupation: God assigns you a place.
- Instruction: He provides the wisdom to thrive there.
- Obedience: You choose to align, even against odds.
- Increase: God multiplies beyond what you can achieve on your own.
7. Prophetic Application
- In your family: You are not there by accident. Seek God’s instructions for peace, love, and provision.
- In your workplace/business: Ask, “Lord, what is today’s instruction?” Favor and promotion flow from obedience.
- In your ministry: Don’t copy others. Customized instructions bring customized increases.
God never assigns without giving instructions. If He gave you an occupation, it means He has already prepared a strategy. And when you follow His strategy, increase is inevitable.
PRAYER
Father, thank You for placing me where I am. Open my ears to Your instructions, and give me the grace to obey. As I walk in obedience, I trust You for supernatural increase. My occupation will not be barren, because You are the Lord of the harvest. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
ACTION STEP AND DEEPER STUDY
Right now, wherever you are, say this aloud:
“I am divinely placed by God, not by chance. I receive and obey God’s instructions for my occupation. I walk in a supernatural increase that only God can give. My life, work, and ministry will bear lasting fruit. In Jesus’ name, amen!”
Now, lift your voice and declare: Hallelujah! Amen!
Meditate on one of these verses today:
- Genesis 2:15–17 — Adam’s occupation came with instruction.
- Exodus 3:10–12 — Moses called and guided.
- Joshua 1:7–8 — Instruction brings success.
- Luke 5:4–6 — Obedience unlocks overflow.
- 2 Corinthians 9:10 — God supplies seed and multiplies it.
