Former US president Donald Trump has pleaded not guilty to 34 felony counts of falsifying business records stemming from a hush-money scheme during the 2016 election.
The charges were handed down in an indictment by a grand jury that was convened by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. This is the first criminal charges for any former U.S. president.
The case involves payoffs to adult-film actress Stormy Daniels and others to conceal an alleged affair ahead of the 2016 election.
Trump, who is seeking to enter the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, is the focus of three other criminal investigations.
