Valentine’s Movie Night … Slowing Down and Rewinding

Local pro-Life group Friends For Life will be hosting a Valentine’s Day Movie Night, an event that, while taking place during the season of love, was not originally conceived as a Valentine’s activity at all.

“The family movie night was originally planned for October,” organisers shared. “But after Hurricane Melissa, even though Kingston itself was not directly impacted, we felt the nation was walking through a tender time. It felt more compassionate to postpone.”

Diane Constantine from Friends For Life, says the event will take place on February 14 at the St Andrew High School for Girls at 6 pm. In an interview with Freedom Come Rain,  she shared that the movie  chosen, ‘Overcomer’, was not intended to be a traditional Valentine’s film, but rather a motivational one.

“It’s a feel-good story centred on enduring values such as family, redemption, forgiveness, and the power of a healed heart. At its core, the film reminds us that love is not merely a feeling,” Constantine explained. “It’s a decision—one made in the best interest of the person being loved. When someone believes in us, it can change the direction of our lives.”

It will be more than a movie; as Constantine said, patrons can expect a warm, clean, and family-friendly environment where they can relax together, enjoy a wholesome film, share snacks, and laugh without pressure or demands.

The evening will comprise a video montage highlighting the work of Friends For Life, which is the pro-life arm of the Love March Movement headed by Dr Daniel Thomas, and an update from Dr Thomas on the ministry’s ongoing impact, as well as opportunities for attendees to sign up as volunteers or contributors.

Constantine noted that while the event serves as a fundraiser, the emphasis remains on connection rather than obligation.

When asked whether Valentine’s Movie Night could become a regular event, Constantine’s response was, “I don’t know…time will tell.”

She is, however, hoping that the movie night will enjoy good support, as she pointed out the focus remains clear – raising funds to support the ministry’s work while offering a space for rest, inspiration, and gentle healing.

And perhaps that, more than anything, is what love looks like right now.
