One day, while walking, I passed a friend of mine who pointed out to me a big plant of a herb I had never noticed before in a friend’s yard. She said she was going to use it to make her tea by combining it with fever grass. Now, if you watched YouTube when Covid-19 started, you would have seen a video that was circulating about the vervain plant and how effective it is against the Covid virus, but let’s be careful how we use herbs. Vervain is a very good plant; it has many medicinal properties; however, it falls in a category of herbs that we call “eliminating.”
I keep recommending that if you are using herbs for healing, you must get your resource books. “In my backyard: powerful herbs and foods in the Caribbean, Parts 1 and 2” is a good book to own. Now, let us talk about vervain and eliminative herbs because you have to understand these things, or you will make yourself sick while drinking herbal teas.
FOUR WAYS HERBS IMPACT THE BODY
In My Backyard mentions that there are four major physiological actions of herbs, i.e. how the herbs impact the body, what they do to the body. We have the eliminative herbs, the repairing herbs, the sustaining herbs,
and the building herbs.
Eliminative herbs are for detoxing. You do not drink them every day. You only use them for a period, and you have to be advised properly how to use them for a particular purpose. Vervain is an eliminative herb. According to In My Backyard Garden, “Eliminative herbs open the organs of elimination, which are the colon, the liver, the lungs, the kidneys, and the skin, to facilitate the expulsion of waste from the body. Elimination is a critical process in herbal remedy administration because disease often results from a build-up of poisons in the body, and the herbs serve the purpose of neutralising poisons and removing disease-causing agents from the body. These herbs include laxatives and diuretic herbs.”
Therefore, we have to know how to combine them when we detox. This is the reason you must find a naturopathic doctor or a trained herbalist. Get proper advice or go and buy this book from which I am sharing about vervain. Get your books and educate yourselves before you start drinking these eliminating herbs.
“Some of the other herbs that fall in the eliminating category are the aloe vera, cerassie, corn silk, the king of the forests, the love vine. Because they are all for detoxing, for purging, and cleansing the body, you don’t drink them every single day.”
Okay, so having cautioned you, let’s examine vervain some more.
VERVAIN USES
The fresh leave–people think that you have to dry herbs before you can make the tea. No, we dry herbs for storage purposes. So, if we’re going to use the fresh (green) herb, use like one tablespoon.
If you’re using the dried herb, because the water has already been removed, it’s more concentrated, so then you use one teaspoon to eight ounces of water.
- When infused in water, the fresh vervain leaf, right off the plant, is a general tonic and blood cleanser, as well as a helpful remedy for asthma and ulcerative stomach.
- It is also useful for fevers and rheumatism. This infusion, administered in the morning on an empty stomach, is also very good for ridding the body of worms.
- Externally, the grounded leaves, made into a paste, are good for skin ulcers, wounds, and boils. The bruised leaves rubbed on sprains and bruises are very good for soothing and healing.
- The stem and the leaf and the bark can be used in a decoction, which means you boil them. This is useful for a wide array of problems in the male and female reproductive system.
- It is also an effective remedy for high cholesterol and thus is protective against heart disease.
- The plant is also very good for resolving fevers and the common cold; and also, very valuable in cases of malaria and diabetes.
Be reminded that vervain, by itself, is not a miracle plant for Covid or anything else; it is simply very effective for elimination, for getting toxins out of your body, and restoring the blood to good health.
In closing, you’ve got to ensure that when you’re taking herbs, you’re also switching over to a whole food, plant-based diet. So, we’re talking about fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts, grains, ground provisions, peas, and beans,
drinking plenty of water, and following the NEWSTART programme–nutrition, exercise, water, sunlight, temperance, air, rest, and trust in God.
It is God who placed the medicinal properties in plants, but we have to learn how to use them properly.
