A Severe Weather Alert remains in effect for Jamaica today as there has been little changes in the area of showers and thunderstorms associated with a tropical wave currently moving across the southeastern Caribbean.
The Meteorological Service Division (MSD) said the Wave has the potential to develop into a tropical depression or a tropical storm over the next day or two.
“Unstable weather conditions are expected to spread over the Caribbean waters south of Jamaica within the next 36-48 hours as the system moves westward. Fishers on the cays and banks are advised to evacuate immediately and start returning to the mainland,” the MSD advised in its latest bulletin at 11 a.m. Thursday.
Other small craft operators are being urged to evacuate immediately and start returning to the mainland, and those who are in port are advised not to venture out.
The MSD continues to monitor the progress of the system. The Met Service has been warning that there is an increasing threat of severe weather to Jamaica as the system moves closer to the island and over its territorial waters by Saturday morning.
