A document outlining the vision for Jamaica from the perspective of Christian youths is to be presented to the Jamaica Constitutional Reform Committee and the Ministry of Education and Youths, amidst mounting concerns that the county is plunging deeper into moral decay.
The document, which has been dubbed, the “Kingston Youth Accords” is to be crafted from contributions made by youths and young adults in attendance at the Jamaica Youth Summit, which was held at Jamaica College on July 22. The event was hosted by the Love March Movement (LMM) under the theme, ‘Our dream, our Jamaica.’
President of the LMM, Dr. Daniel Thomas, reinforced that a nation without God is a failed nation, no matter how rich or powerful that country is perceived to be. He cautioned that a spirit of Jezebel has taken control of Western nations and is seducing and deceiving countries to pursue evil agendas.
“That spirit is vying for the future and destiny of Jamaica. Will we follow those nations that are going down that path?” he asked
“There are those that want to establish the nation in a social, political, and economic frame that leaves out God,” he asserted.
He noted that Jamaica is at a crossroads and urged the gathering of mostly Christian youths that they have a responsibility to ensure the durability, functionality, and reliability of the country. In reminding them that they are the salt of the earth, he noted that Christians have a responsibility to impact the geographical location they occupy.
“The church in Jamaica has done an amazing job in nation-building. There is no other ideology; there is no other institution in this country that has done more than the church of Jesus Christ, and so when people come to you and want you to adopt evolution and adopt secular humanity, what have they done for this country brethren? He asked, before responding to his own question, “Nothing!”
Dr. Thomas, a medical doctor, encouraged young people to play a part in nation-building in an effort to assist Jamaica to reach her prophetic destiny.
Meanwhile, vice president of the LMM, Francesca Tavares, reminded those in attendance that every law is the product of a worldview and enforces some morality.
“If not God’s law, then whose law is it? Asked the attorney.
Her question comes against a backdrop of increasing pressure to do away with the Judeo-Christian worldview on a wide range of moral issues.
“It is said, ‘do not impose your faith’ or ‘Christians should not impose their views’. What is being said is that someone else should,” she reasoned.
She contended that the Judeo-Christian worldview provides the best framework upon which to build a healthy society, because the principles are based on truth.
