Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg says he wants powerful artificial intelligence, including future “superintelligent” AI, to be available to ordinary people—not just governments, large companies, or a small group of powerful individuals.
In a 14-page letter called “The Future is for Everyone: The Path to a Positive AI Future,” Zuckerberg said superintelligent AI could become one of the most important technologies in human history. He believes it could bring major opportunities, but also serious risks if too much power is controlled by too few people.
Zuckerberg said his vision is based on three main ideas: giving individuals more power, using AI to create new things, and making sure AI power is not controlled by only a small group.
He warned that if superintelligent AI is controlled by a few companies, governments, or even AI systems themselves, the benefits could go mainly to those in control.
“Meta is the company primarily focused on building personal superintelligence for everyone,” Zuckerberg said.
Unlike some AI companies that are mainly developing AI for businesses and governments, Meta says it wants to develop AI that individuals can use directly.
Meta also plans to release more of its AI technology as open-source models, allowing more people and developers to use and build on the technology.
The company has already released Muse Glimmer, an AI model that can reportedly run on a laptop or a single consumer graphics card. Meta also plans to release another model called Muse Spark 1.2 in the coming weeks.
Zuckerberg also announced a $1 billion “Future is for Everyone Fund.” The money will support communities where Meta operates data centers, with the goal of creating better-paying jobs, improving schools and public services, and protecting the environment.
He pointed to Richland Parish, Louisiana, as an example. Teachers there reportedly received $50,000 bonuses this year because of tax revenue generated by a Meta data center project.
Zuckerberg’s overall message is simple: AI is becoming extremely powerful, and he believes that power should be placed in the hands of many people—not controlled by only a few.
