Believers, don’t get caught in false narratives that raise idols of:
- Race – It’s important, but not more important than truth
- Climate – We must be responsible, but the world will be burnt with fire in any case. (2 Peter 3:10)
- Life on Mars – Because Jesus will establish His throne in Jerusalem (on earth) (Psalm 2:6)
- A utopian or dystopian future ruled by AI (a digital superintelligence) because the Lord will destroy all His enemies when He returns. They will all be as dust before Him. No AI can stand before Him.
- Fatalism – Where Believers throw their hands up in the air and say, “It’s end times now, so evil will come.” This is a deception. We wrestle against the forces of darkness till death! Rest in glory in heaven!
While on Earth, be at peace with God and labour with all your energy for the Kingdom, for the night will soon come when no man can work. (John 9:4)
- Self-preservation – Where Believers live as cowards and create a whole narrative of God wanting us to have a great life now, free of pain and trial. Rubbish these claims!
You are crucified with Christ; if you suffer with Him, you will reign with Him. They hated Him; they will hate you. The servant cannot be greater than the master. (John 13:16)
- If your goal is self-preservation and not to live for Christ, are you really His disciple?
When Jesus calls us, He calls us to die. Those who wish to save their lives will lose it. (Matt 16:25) Those who lose it for Christ’s sake will find it. Cowards will not enter God’s Kingdom. (Rev 21:8)
THE ROLES OF THE CHURCH
- Love at the expense of truth – This is a central feature of our demonic world-culture. The Believer who holds to this disregards the Word of God and raises the culture and people as idols. Love does not rejoice in evil (1 Cor.13:6). Jesus is the truth (John 14:6), and said the reason He was born…was to defend truth (John 18:37), the Holy Spirit is truth (1John 5:6).
The role of the church is to defend truth (1 Tim 3:15). Love rejoices with the truth (1 Cor. 13:6). The love of the world in many cases is hate towards God, and therefore hate itself.
- Evangelism is our only role – This is nowhere in Scripture. Evangelism is very important, but discipleship is critical. Consider also that Jesus gave evangelists, prophets, apostles, pastors, and teachers for the maturation of the body of Christ (Eph 4:11).
There is a lot that has nothing to do with evangelism that is very essential to God. Matters of truth (Scriptures mentioned earlier), justice (Isaiah 59:14, Micah 6:8), and righteousness. When Jesus said, “You are the salt of the earth,” it was not in relation to evangelism, but to the preservation of the testimony of the Lord Jesus.
The majority of the New Testament is about weeding out deception and building the maturation of the church, and not about evangelism; so, although evangelism is important, it is not the only role.
One scripture I would point to that is clearly much wider than evangelism is Ephesians 3:10: “His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms.” The rulers and authorities are angels and demons: to the angels, it is teaching the mind of God; to demons, it is war. (For our wrestle is not against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers, rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms Ephesians 6:12).
May we steep ourselves in the true Biblical narrative, untainted by 21st century cultural distortions and lies.
To be lost in Your story, LORD, beholding Your beauty, and inquiring of You.
