Building an Impenetrable Marriage

Is the enemy throwing darts at you, your spouse and your marriage? Does separation look inevitable? The added pressures with troublesome child/ren or financial limitations causing strains? Unanswered prayers for a job, home or child? Feel like “throwing in the towel”? We may have been there at least once in our lives. The good news is that we do not have to succumb.

Our Experience
We have been married for six (6) years and there have been times when we felt like we had come to wits end. It especially happened after a major event and follow up incidents arising from different angles that threatened to break us. This reinforced for us that the enemy is attacking marriages and is merciless in his intent to ‘kill, steal and destroy’. If we had allowed him (the devil) to have his way, we would have been telling a different story today, and it would not have entailed writing these articles together on marriage!

The Solution
Spiritual warfare is won using spiritual weapons. For the unbelieving couple, get under the covering of the Almighty God.
Ephesians 6 tells us “Above all, take the shield of faith by which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked”. Notice, all the lies and attacks of the enemy are called ‘fiery darts’ but they are quenched (blown out/powerless) when we use the shield of faith. Faith believes what God says in spite of how things look right now. Faith comes by hearing the word of God.

Faith without Works is Dead
It is not enough to believe the Word. The devil also believes and trembles. If we are to see faith at work it takes practical application. We can experience God’s power in seemingly impossible situations such as the ability to keep a marriage together in the face of steering challenges. “What God put together let no one pull apart”. God’s word remains true that “all things work together for good for His purpose”. What does God expect us to do in addition to praying, fasting and reading the Word together? If we are settled in ourselves that we are doing all that is expected of us, then we can seek God for the reason and for his purpose to unfold for the present situation or unanswered prayers. Whatever the case do not let the enemy penetrate our marriages, rather let us use the shield of faith to protect it. We will never see the expected
